Breakfast Help ! Beans on Toast?

Hello ! Type 2 here HP1AC 8.4 at last blood test.

OK - So I have never really liked Breakfast cereals, and tend to skip it, recently I re-discovered beans on toast.

I have it with wholemeal bread and low fat non-butter spread and lower sugar baked beans. One slice and the smaller can size.

Doesn't seem to affect my BSL too badly. I am metformin 500mg, but have my yearly review (well 3 month) next week.

What the opinion on this ? Any other suggestions ?

If your BG's ok 2 hrs after then go for it. Maybe switch the spread for real butter. Try Eggs too however you like them, or go made a have a full english

Don't know if it is the diet (sorry WoE) but tinned baked beans taste too sweet to me. When I have beans these days, I make them with real beans, tomatoes, garlic & herbs and proper bacon lardons, cooked in my "slow cooker".

I agree to eggs and can add in bacon if want
And only real butter. False butters and marge not healthy.

Excellent.
Can I ask what brand of beans you buy? I used to love beans but they seem to leave me at 9+mmol after 2 hours.. I think I need to experiment with brands!

Personally, I'd skip the spread entirely. There's enough calories in the beans and the bread, without adding the extra from the saturated fat in the butter. I don't eat low fat spreads for the same reason, as it's still extra calories I don't need.
But check if the difference alters your bs.

Sure - they are Tesco own lower sugar version!

Oh great stuff... I wondered if B on T would be okay to eat and evidently it is. I'm pleased.. I can have them any time of day. ty

If you are doing lower carb higher fat as you seem to be then butter is fine but as all said avoid the spread.
Douglass is on calorie diet which is different

Where do you get lower carb from that breakfast?
It sounds a decent, balanced, low GI meal, that doesn't spike the op.
Sounds fine as it is working as it is for him.
Extra saturated fat on top is just unneeded extra calories for the sake of just adding fat to a meal that doesn't need it. Far better to leave it out entirely.

Sorry mate, if you lchf, but couldn't not feel hungry after baked beans on toast for breakfast, without adding extra fat, there must be something wrong with the regime and how it trains you to expect to eat a larger quantity of food at each meal.
I certainly would expect to feel ok after a slice of bread and a tin of beans, without feeling I had to worry about hunger pains shortly after.
And to be honest, adding extra calories to a reasonable quantity of food, in the form of fat, is probably what got me here in the first place.

It's interesting though, lchf, is becoming more simply add fat, as no one would say beans on toast is low carb, but already it's been suggested adding fat to a medium, even a high carb meal like that would make it more acceptable, and healthy to a lchf regime.

the fat makes you feel not hungry alot later on, if i eat fat i dont get hungry until my next meal time, if i dont eat fat im hungrier alot sooner therefore eat between meals therefore eating "un needed extra calories"

The right diet is the one that works for you, not me.
We're all different, but we'll all suggest what works for ourselves personally.
Eat to your meter, and you'll find yours.
