Thank you for putting all this information in one thread!!!!There are always a lot of threads about Statins and Cholesterol and we all post our various favourite bits of current presentations about them but I thought it might be handy to have them all in one thread. I meant to put this together soon after the get together in Birmingham (sorry @Debandez) but have been a bit distracted (thanks to twitter) since then so thought it was about time I pulled my finger out and put something down. I'll try and take the best bits of what I have posted previously and nick some bits from others... please anyone feel free to add what you find so we can have a one stop shop for the curious.
Full disclosure... I can't think of a single reason why I would take a statin.. ever

Ah yes, the old 'magic pill', 'silver bullet' myth. Unfortunately a lot of Type 2's seem to labour under the same magical thinking - the GP will be able to fix things for me and I won't need to change a thingsome statin users mistakenly believe they can eat whatever they want, leading to the phenomenon of statin gluttony.
I was listening to an Aseem Malhotra anecdote in which a cardiology professor stood up at conference and said something like for those who hate exercise, like me, you can take a statin. If like a bike helmet or a seat belt a statin actually helped any but those with established heart disease (number needed to treat = 83 based on recent meta anlaysis of even the pharma biased big drug trials) though) then might be a rational choice.Ah yes, the old 'magic pill', 'silver bullet' myth. Never too old for that one!.. in fact as we know for women the older you are the better you are with cholesterol higher...I was listening to an Aseem Malhotra anecdote in which a cardiology professor stood up at conference and said something like for those who hate exercise, like me, you can take a statin. Now where can I get that t shirt ' I cannot think of any reason to take a statin ..ever'. Probably too old to be wearing slogans tees I suppose...
