Completion of profile settings

I think there is a thing as a strident avatar. Avatars like logos, can be used in all sorts of ways and some of course are persuasive to the point of unacceptability.

I'm not seeing the relevance to this thread, what does an avatar have to do with anything being discussed here?

The thread is about profiles, avatars are part of a profile and can have an influence, perhaps subconsciously on how you view a poster.

Then my avatar suggests I'm older than I thought I was and perhaps a tad twisted.

Yes, avatars are a part of a profile, but I thought the thread is about incomplete profiles and not listing type and how that impacts on advice and support being offered. Which is kind of important. At least that's what I thought was made quite clear in the very first post?

Mine suggests I'm either a dog or a person.... but I refuse to state which one.is actually replying to this! :D

Mine suggests I'm a cross-eyed grumpy old bird with green hair, purple slippers and a mug of tea permanently clutched in my right hand..........its all true except for the Lederhosen or shorts neither of which I possess, oh and I'm not cross-eyed.........yet
:joyful:......

Yes, information is vital when we are giving advice. I have at times suggested that profiles be completed to new members and have been studiously ignored. On those occasions I have withdrawn from the threads which is imo a lose, lose situation.

Required fields should be just that. Obviously they should be kept to a minimum but we are speaking to important issues here.

Ooooh, well, I'm glad you said it's a bird.... I've been thinking all along it was a walking shrub :D:wideyed:

Thank you for clarifying :)

As the OP I completely agree with this. There has been some derailment, and it would be nice to get back on track.

It continues to happen, with nearly every newby failing to complete the settings. It didn't used to happen. It is fairly recent. I was mainly wondering if it is because of the app, or certain phones. It is important, and it is a required option. In addition to newbies asking questions, it is also the case that others offer dietary advice when they themselves haven't completed the settings - it is just as important for everyone to know where they are coming from with this advice.

I just tried the app for the first time on my Android phone. If you try to register as a new member it tells you to do it on the website using a browser, so that is not the problem.
