Hi, I’ve just joined. I’ve been type 1 for 22 years and recently had a heart attack. I’m struggling to keep in range. I also use freestyle Libre 2 system. Has anyone shared my experience?

Hi Katnel and welcome.

As a T2, no cardio history, and not a Libre user I'm not going to be much help to you. I'm sure there will be folk along soon - tagging @EllieM @Antje77 and @Jaylee.

Hi, my dad had a diabetic related (in my opinion) fatal heart attack, I have had a heart bypass due to blocked arteries, the heart docs reckoned it had more to do with my heavy smoking, although I hadn’t smoked for ten years, they blamed that not the diabetes, I suppose it would be hard to prove either way, Best wishes.

Hi @Katnel and welcome to the forums.

Unfortunately I believe that diabetes does make you more prone to cardio issues but to be honest plenty of non diabetics get them too.

As regards the diabetes, illness and stress make control harder so I can imagine that you may be having difficulties.

What sort of diabetes regime are you on and what are your team doing to help you?

From studies I've seen, evidence is solid that diabetes (not well controlled) has larger association with Coronary Artery Disease than does high LDL Cholesterol, though perhaps not as high as chain smoking!

Hi. I’m just about to start cardiac rehab and waiting on diabetic appointment. I’ve increased my levemir from 30 in the morning to 38( gradually every 2 days by 2 units at a time ) I take 1 unit of novorapid for every 10 grams of carbs.
