Data breach?

I have just had a message on opening Safari that there has been a data breach on this website, and my password has been compromised, is this legit?

Hi @Rustytypin, Were you already signed in or do you sign in with your usual password?

I’ll report to @Administrator for you as this is out of mods remit, if in the meantime you get any more problems please report them in this thread, hopefully it’s just been a glitch in the matrix as at yet no one else has reported any problems
 
I haven’t had an alert.
For any that I do get, I don’t open the alert message. I change passwords regularly, and don’t use same one for different websites.
 
Hi @lovinglife , the message came up on the Safari home page, before I clicked on any websites. I do however remain logged in to this site, so I can go straight to the forum without logging in every time.

Thanks @Rustytypin :) so it wasn’t on DCUK site/forum but the Safari home page? I remain logged in all the time too and haven’t had an alert
 
Not had anything here , I’m always in “private“mode dunno if it makes a difference but no warnings as yet

Yes it was on the Safari Home page, I've just rebooted my computer to see if that would make a difference but the message has not reappeared. I'll see what happens!

Thanks for the info - it sounds like it wasn’t a problem with the forum but the Safari page, but I’m not one bit tech minded, I’ve let admin know anyway so let’s wait and see

If this is on a Mac you should be able to re-check the password by going to System Preferences and Passwords.

Apple don't say where they get the information they use, but the biggest source is https://haveibeenpwned.com/ and you can check your email to see if they have any record of breaches.

Thanks, @sgm14 I had forgotten about have I been pwned, just checked on it and according to them I’m in the clear.
 
Hi @Rustytypin - thanks for noting this. As others have said, this may be because your password was compromised in a breach, rather than the site itself being compromised. Please send @Carson_DCUK a message (and preferably a screenshot too) and we'll look into this immediately for you. Please use a different password for your online accounts to maximise safety.
