diabetic ice cream

Morrison's sells this:
Frank's Diabetic Vanilla Ice Cream

Of which sugars* 13.8g

*Made using fructose which leads to a lower blood glucose rise compared to foods containing sucrose or glucose

I daren't try it, as I suspect the point made about fructose isn't right, or is not right enough to eat something that is 19.7g carbs. Any thoughts?

I see Jim Lahey, who is very knowledgeable said that fructose was better in the following link:

I've just read in the following links that Jim says fructose increases insulin resistance, so I don't think swapping sucrose for fructose is at all right for a "diabetic" product:

Hi, in my limited experience, anything claiming to be for diabetics is junk, remembering most doctors and nurses don’t know what’s good for us, what chance is there that this company knows, cares or wants anything but money.

I might be wrong though.

You're not wrong..

@Languagelearner the point that @Jim Lahey was making was, I think, that fructose is processed directly by the liver which turns it to fat adding to the problem of NAFLD. So whilst it doesn't directly contribute to blood glucose levels it has a worse effect down the line, visceral fat.

@bulkbiker that’s it in a nutshell. As I understand it at least. Fructose not only markedly contributes to hepatic fat deposition, but it also induces leptin resistance, which in turn blunts satiety and makes us eat more. From an evolutionary perspective the role of fructose is to fatten animals for winter. Not ideal for someone with pre-existing diabetic pathology.
 
Labelling foods as ‘diabetic’ was outlawed in 2016, here’s an article about it (from the blue forum):

Following your link @Languagelearner it looks like the manufacturer has removed ‘diabetic’ and invented the word ‘dialicious’ to get around the new ruling. It is Morrisons that describe it as ‘diabetic ice cream’, I don’t know if the law is applicable to seller or just the manufacturers, either way it’s still very misleading.
 
Might sound silly, but I turn the word Carbs into 'pounds' nowadays.
If I see something over £6 ... knowing that my top whack for the entire day is hopefully under 50 then I deem it a waste of 'money' :D
 
I make my own - double cream with a few berries mashed in, add an egg yolk and gently heat in the cream if feeling fancy! - or buy a stevia sweetened one.

Fructose eaten in this way (without fibre that it naturally comes with) may not be helpful if you've already got insulin resistance.
Probably best to eat the usual stuff 'in moderation' if you can do it bearing in mind that sugar is also half fructose.
Maybe you could try some of the low sugar ice creams that are sweetened with wood alcohol. These are usually marketed as low carb/keto. Still junky but won't jack up your blood glucose or fatten your liver so much.

I'd love a recipe please for home made ice cream. We aren't mad on double cream whipped up on its own, would like something added to it. Anybody got one?
 
Fructose is a terrible choice of sweetener- it metabolises mega quickly and anything not used gets stuck on the liver to build up to fatty liver disease. Keep away. Oppo ice cream or halo top are much better options…
 
I remember when I was a newly diagnosed teenager my mum use to buy me “ diabetic” foods as a treat mainly sweets ! All they did was made me visit the toilet more often ,

My mum bought me diabetic jelly once and my dad are the whole bowl of it , ha that taught him for being a greedy pig , he didn’t leave the house for a few days hehehe
