Hardly surprising, but then again, would you have kept the Newcastle diet study to yourself if someone asked to provide the results in public?
They didn't get universal agreement, if I remember correctly, and it still isn't prescribed as the first course of treatment.

Christine's DN sounds on the ball though!

I agree, I've always said there are good and bad healthcare providers. The medical profession is very slow to progress though and lots of good scientific based evidence takes years to get into practice and become nationally/internationally accepted. Within 5 years I'd guess that carb reduction for those with diabetes will be standard practice. Even now, DAFNE is being looked at closely in the UK.
 
My GP told me that he had been on a diabetes course and that they went around a supermarket noting down the different carbohydrate contents on the food labels. My DN told me that she had an A level in Biology. Not much chance of them coming here as they obviously feel that they are fully clued up, even if it is on the reproductive cycle of the buttercup.
 
And after reading this thread, it's easy to see why apart form a ethical restraint concerning how they provide information, that they don't jonin

As if you don't promote the right 'ideology' then you aren't welcome, if they do their research they will also see that not promoting the right ideology will lead not just to being bullied, attacked on this forum but via other internet platforms, and will see that some members will attempt to destroy their careers!

As to the team I have...

Well my surgery DSN is an advocate of testing for T2's, as she says it's a lot easier to help a patient to make necessary lifestyles adjustments when they can see the impact their choice has made! She doesn't believe in extreme diets, but does believe in that an high percentage of her T2's will need to adjust their carbohydrate intake to healthier levels.

The GP's one is a T1, another one is very knowledgeable and has a great interest in insulin pump therapy, but in the main most of the doctors will send you to see our DSN, but she does work very closely with the main diabetic.

My consultant (and the rest of the hospital team) have the view point that there's is no right or wrong way, the right way is the one that works, and also the patient is the expert in their own condition. So they work very closely with the patient educating the patient to enable them to manage their own condition.

That's how it should be, as the likes of Bernstein, Briffa, Wortman are just as bad as my first consultant/team back in the days when you has the patient had little say... You were prescribed in my case the amount of insulin and the time I would inject, and prescribe the amount of carbohydrates that I would consume not just in one day but per meal and snack, and the timings of these...

Certainly Diabetes Specialist Nurses look at the forums, as a DSN, Type 1 (42 years), pumper (7 years), I regularly look at the forums. I 'listen', empathise, and learn from them. Very rarely post, but when I do, I make it clear that I'm posting from a personal perspective and not professionally. Diabetes is a very tricky condition to manage, and everyone is different. Therefore what works for one won't work for another, it would be helpful if more HCP's took that on board!

I think IanD had made contact with the Stockport GP whilst he was on the forum, perhaps Ian may give you the details or point you in the right direction of the research paper if you ask him, alternatively there might have been something in the Stockport local paper about the gp's findings.
 
It's a little pointless to talk as if GPs and DNs are all singing from the same hymn sheet or pulling in the same direction. A lot of it depends on whether they are salaried or with profits and a lot of it is to do with personality. Our local practice lost half of the more experienced salaried GPs when the profits minded GP took over its management. New replacements came and went and eventually the culprit was ejected. Essentially there was a rebellion. "The official line is that he has retired on the grounds of ill health" is what the new GP told me.

You hear more about the bad ones than the good ones and it is the same for all professions. People rarely bother to comment on a good professional but will moan about one they consider useless.

Dr Jay Wortman was banned by previous admins then there was a lady hcp who started world war 3 and another really obnoxious Dr who called all the well controlled T2s liars as they couldn't possibly be controlling their bgs that well and anyway its was all their own fault.

Dr John Briffa is also a member but I haven't seen him post for quite sometime.

Hcps have been fun and it would be great to see some more!
