I've been eating loads of grapes thinking they were OK because they're a natural sugar. Is this true? Thannks

Your body does not process natural sugars any different than added sugars.
Grapes are no different to sweets, lots of sugar. :(

Hi @JGR1958 welcome to the forum and some unpleasant truths:
Not only are grapes and nearly all tropical fruit high in sugars, but starches like ordinary wheat flour and mashed potato have a higher Glycaemic index than Table sugar.
Also fruit juice is like an energy drink with a few added vitamins i.e. most carbonated drinks are lower in sugars than fruit juice is!
Sugars are sugars added or 'natural' and a carbohydrate digests into sugar, so a carb is a sugar in as little as a few minutes time.

Way too much sugar in them. Eat only berries and not too many. Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries etc. fresh or frozen. veggies like potatoes sweet potato etc are too high in carbs also. Mash made with cauliflower is great. Most grains are too high wheat etc. use almond flour, coconut flour etc for baking which are low carb / keto. Explore some of the threads on here about low carb / keto for ideas.

When I was Gliclizide which is a medication that can cause hypos 3 - 4 grapes would raise my blood sugar back to normal very quickly, far quicker than a couple of jelly babies. They are called little sugar bombs for a reason

Of course, best way to know how they affect you as an individual is to test blood glucose before, and an hour or two after eating them.

Compared to other fruit, grapes are higher carbs but for those of us carb counting, please remember they are not 100% pure sugar. They are about 20% carbs.

Way too much for T2 me at about 16% carb. Natural sugars are carbs, just like the others. If you're testing before and after eating you should be able to establish what a given amount does to your BG level.

We need a complete reset on the word "healthy". It's used all the time by the media and health services and for me, grapes, no matter how "natural" they are, are definitely not "healthy".

Look at eating low carbohydrate. Look for ‘Carb & Calorie’ Counter book and GI & GL Counter book

My healthcare adviser said grapes are ok but in moderation. Sugars are natural and better than Added sugars. But not in large no's, Qty only what fits in your hand...

Have you tested your blood glucose before and after eating a handful of grapes?
I have, and for me 2 grapes brought me from 3.6 to 5.5 in some 20 minutes. So I'm happy eating a couple of grapes when I'm low, and I'm happy eating a single grape when I encounter grapes, but a handful wouldn't do me any good.
