Fatty Liver

Eat more protein, more fiber, and more fat. Only high glycemic load plant foods will spike blood sugar and insulin. Insulin is the fat storage hormone.

all carbs affect blood sugar and insulin. Not only the low glycemic ones. Please re-check your information and read Dr Briffa and Jason Fung info.

It seems there is much more to this gut biome concept.
Such states as a leaky gut, wrong or missing bacteria are poisoning our bodies more than has been thought in the past.
Recent findings indicate that a faulty gut biome is potentially the cause of toxins in the brain causing Parkinsons disease!

some things in this theory don't make sense to me. Like why are the bad guys so strong and vigorous and the good ones wilt and die easily. Why are the good ones so feeble that they need probiotics every day but the bad guys don't need that to thrive.
If it works it works. The theory doesn't matter much if NAFLD disappears! Certainly antibiotics damage our gut flora.

I began taking Milk Thistle tablets (165mg) only 1 a day in October 2016. These are the results taken in October of: ALT = 107 and GGT = 100. And these are the results taken a few days ago: ALT = 102 and GGT = 99.
My next results should be in March after I have seen the Liver Specialist about my NAFLD.

Hi Liam,
It is a marginal change you have made but in the right direction. Hope you get on ok in March. I am having another blood test at the end of the month.

William my ALT was 220 when diagnosed with fatty liver. After doing lchf for 3 months it was reduced to 22. Its now 44, at last blood test. Up due to carbs and medication.

Well Done @ickihun at lowering your ALT Vicky. I cannot do LCHF Diet due to not being a full meat eater! And I want to keep my Cholesterol at 3.2 - I keep my eye on satuated fats as there is Heart Disease in the Male side of my family: Father died of Heart Attack and both my Older and Younger Brother had Heart Attacks but survived.. Don't forget this Biological Drug I am on could well be responsible for my Fatty Liver?

That's true.
Your ALT is reducing so I bet it will be even better next 3mth test. Well done. Not everyone can reduce it!
Are you pleased with your loss?

@ickihun - The answer is NO - Vicky! I am seeing the Liver Specialist on 3rd February and not looking forward one bit. I have not lost the 1 stone he asked me to loose, (remain at 13st 4lbs) and as you know, I had to go back onto the Tramadol and Lyrica plus take liquid Morphine over the last 2 months. Then next week 're-start the Ferrous Fumarate (Iron) Tablets as the Aneamia is back. I am scared to see the Liver Specialist!!!!!

Well done ickihun. Exactly the same thing happened for me. After a lifetime of dieting ( 40ish years ) following the low fat and calorie advice, I ended up with a fatty liver and reading of 185 .
LCHF now for 3 years and the fatty liver had gone in 6 months and has remained that way at a reading of 35.
The specialist in the hospital discharged me last year , saying "your liver has been consistently normal for well over a year."
I will add however, that she was shocked when I told her how I did it ;)

Do you want me to come and show him was obese is?!?!
Losing one stone in water and muscle with a little bit fat won't get rid of fatty liver! Does he not know that?
Change specialist. You cannot waste your life expectacy on old fashioned medicine. A fresher consultant is what you deserve. Don't take anything less @Liam1955 . You can choose your care, for this reason. Get your lazy specialist up-to-date or find a better one. Your life depends on it. If it was a loved one you wouldnt accept bad care. Don't do it for yourself! Please.

@ickihun - Vicky, there is only 2 Liver Specialists here. And I originally saw the other 'older' guy - but he was off sick and I had waited 3 weeks for the Liver Biopsy result. So when I rang and spoke with the Medical Secretary the next appointment was 2 months away for the 'older', and so I asked to see the 'younger' one and got an appointment within a fortnight (that was in October last year). This 'younger' Liver Specialist is an 'up-to-date' Consultant and he is to the point and says it how it is - which startled me, but in all honesty I would rather have that way.

Roundup in food ( glyphosate): This herbicide produced by Monsanto has been the subject of a study that has just come out. Small amounts, much smaller than humans ingest in food , is claimed by this study to produce N.A.F.L.D. in rats. The findings need to be verified but the promiscuous use of herbicides in agriculture has had the attention of the concerned for a long time. Did you know for example grains are sprayed with herbicide just before harvest purely to harden the crop! It is anybodies guess what our personal load of herbicides are and what foods contain them, and what residues there are in meat and eggs of creatures fed contaminated food. regards D.

Hi again @Piccyman - I agreed with my Liver Specialist when I saw him last on 3rd February (few weeks ago) that I would go back on the Low Fat Diet a second time for my Fatty Liver.
I sourced as much information as I could on Low Fat Diet and there are foods that as a Diabetic I am not supposed to eat - but, if it means that I will loose fat from within my Liver then that is the important issue here.
Since starting Low Fat Diet on 4th February (just over 2 weeks ago) I have managed to loose just 2lbs in weight. My Liver Specialist would like me to loose another 1 stone (bringing my weight down to just over 12 stone) before my next appointment to see him in July this year. He is arranging for my to undergo another Fibroscan, previously had one done a year ago and it revealed a Score of 10·5. And I have to have my Bloods done every 6 weeks to check on my Liver Function (ALT & GGT).
I am a 'fussy eater'! But I have done a list of foods that I will eat, and it's just a case of checking my Bloods more. (I am supposed to check my Blood Sugars up to 7 times a day anyway) Maybe You and I might compare notes/ideas on Low Fat Diet Foods? :)

How often and when do you test BG?

Well, to be honest 3 to 4 times a day! Maybe 1 or 2 more if I feel my Blood sugars are low, I should test up to 7 times each day because I use Insulin as well as taking 5 Diabetic Tablets.

A low fat diet would then be high in carbs I assume? Doesn't sound good for reversing NAFLD. I reversed my NAFLD with a low carb high fat diet. Have you tried that?
