First 7 Day Fast COMPLETED!!

Please can you outline your methodology, @KevinPotts ?
Are your fasts fluids only? No veg or soup, just clear fluids? Also, do you take vitamin supplements?
Thanks.

Black coffee, black green tea, water, Bovril (2ltr per day).

10g NuZest Good Green Stuff supplement.

That's it:)

Thanks. I think that is a type of meal replacement product, then? So is your method based on a variation of the Newcastle diet method? an intermittent fast, rather than the longer fasting period advocated by the Newcastle team of researchers?

No Good Green Stuff is simply a supplement, not meal replacement:)

@Pipp, thought I'd give you a bit more detail as you seem interested with the precision of the fast.

In short within Good Green Stuff, there are 38 Cal in a single daily serving from the combined nutrients, vits, minerals etc of which 2.8g are carbs. So together with Bovril @ 2 cubes (8 Cal, 1g carb) I guess my total Cal intake is around 50-75 approx with under 5g carbs per day.

Morning all:)

FBG 6.1, so nudged up 1.0 mmol over night as the old liver gets rid of its glycogen. Will be interesting to see that tail off through the next few days.

Will be back at 7pm, with a full breakdown of the markers for completion of Day 2 (48 hours):)

Thanks, yes. There are so many definitions of 'fast' that it helps to have the details. I guess you have documented your fasting details elsewhere, but I have missed that thread.
Do you think home made bone broth would be a good substitute for the Bovril? Maybe the Bovril gives salt though?

They would both work well, with salt in each, but Bovril for me is the simpler solution:)

I have another 4 day fast with all my markers listed within the Fasting section of the forum:)

Good luck Kevin, you're a brave soul.
If you don't make it all 7 days just let it go. I could NEVER do that as I just love food too much haha

Is there an advantage to 7 days vs 24 or 48? Just curious...

Defo clears the Glycogen from the liver and advice suggests train your pancreas re insulin:)

@Kristen , Jason Fung refers to research that shows that the effect of a fast on insulin resistance is much better after a few days as the body is more reliant on fat burning. He also advocates 24/36hr fasting regimes, but I try to do longer ones for this reason.

See the graph in - https://intensivedietarymanagement.com/fasting-and-muscle-mass-fasting-part-14/

Personally, I think longer fasts are fairly straightforward providing you are fat adapted on an LCHF lifestyle diet and probs even easier on a Ketogenic diet.

Hi Kevin,

Following this with interest. :)

One word of caution though - any HbA1c taken after fasting like yours is only going to be representative of your body's ability to maintain its blood glucose levels while intermittently fasting. You have certainly been IFing for long enough for it to impact the a1c, but it won't tell you much beyond that.

It certainly isn't going to give you any indication of whether you have reversed your diabetes. You will only find that out when you have been eating 'normally' (whatever way of eating you decide to move onto after this) in another 3 months.

Are you intending to 'carb up' for a few days and then take an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test to check for reversal? It is the best way I can think of to test your doc's theory, and I would be fascinated to find out the result. :)

Thanks for the advice:)

I'll discuss it with the Doc. I know that from 15/4 , I will start to systematically test a range of carbs, one carb prod per week, gradually increasing grammage:)

The second 3 months will be perhaps even more interesting than the first 3:)

Great start... Well done sir.

Excellent work keep it up.............there is a place for you in the great guinea pig university, and hopefully we can then all piggy back onto your success. I'm struggling to go 24 hours at the moment.

Your weight loss and recent scientific dedication are quite remarkable................I'm wondering if you have something of an "all or nothing" personality like me. My wife can't fathom how I have neglected my health for 20 years, and now suddenly I'm a low-carb bore and getting results. However, once I really researched it, including supplements, I was like a dog with a bone who wouldn't let go. You're on this forum so much I suspect you've been seriously neglecting Euro 2016 as well as friends and family.

Probably YES to all your questions. I am extremely focused, I enjoy learning, I was scared 3 mo this ago when the dr said "if you carry on like this you are likely to die 10 years earlier than the average male in the UK"....it was like a jolt and so I started researching, came to this community which acted as a huge catalyst and support.

I've watched most of the Euro 2016, but I'm out when Wales play Portugal, so will have to "catch up" before coming on here on Wednesday evening:)

I'm probs on here an hour a day, so that leaves me plenty of time for life and family:)

FBG this AM was 6.1, now I'm in day 3. Full results a bit later tonight as I'm going out.

How are you doing @KevinPotts ... good results - but I expected nothing less ;)

Doing well thanks...taking a bit longer than usual to push my FBG down, but I think it's just the tail end of this infection and it's moving in the right direction. Thanks for asking:)
