Type 1 first time background retinopathy found

Hi I have been a type 1 insulin controlled diabetic for 13 years. I have recently had my yearly eye check and received results in the post today saying I have mild background retinopathy and to be recalled for another eye check in 12 months. This is the first time I have had any thing picked up and its worried me a lot ! Would be nice to hear what other diabetics have experienced with the same problem. Thanks a lot xx

I had that a couple of years ago, but apparently is all normal now, so not necessarily any reason to panic!

I got the same letter back in January 2013. I have covered my experiences about this in my blog on this forum. I have posted about my entire journey as a type 1 diabetic, so you may want to skip a few entries if you decide to read it. The good news is that things don't have to go downhill if you get a handle on your diabetes control. Best of luck with everything

I had background retinopathy but due to pump and much improved fluctuations in levels then it has completely disappeared for the past 4 years. I dread going though incase they tell me uts come back!!

I have diabetic retinopathy . Including losing my vision for an entire year. I have had 12 laser surgeries as well as a vitrectomy. Although I have had long standing diabetes my retinopathy showed very quickly. I woke up one day to blackness in one eye. It is great you are managing and getting check ups. They are so important .
