I do not have diabetes
One of the reasons that I'm on here. Is the fact that I would not be here but for a series of events that have occurred to me..
my endocrinologist had the tools and knowledge, not that he knew initially what was happening, to diagnose me.
then there was a special person on this forum, who helped so much with getting my dietary requirements in a better place so that I could get control of this weird rare condition.
And the support of others, which is so important.
This is a global forum, we welcome everyone.

We are all here to improve our lives and have questions that we would like answered, by those who have experienced the same symptoms and being in need of a friend to help when things are not going right of as planned.

on here, we try to help when we can, and regardless of our circumstances, that help doesn'zh change. We are a nice bunch and will support you whatever you decide to do. And I'm certain that the mods and staff will welcome you with your individual circumstances.

I would like to nominate you. @Zhnyaka

Thanks everyone for the nominations, acceptances & declinations so far, there’s still plenty of time to nominate someone or indeed yourself, just remember a simple nomination, with tag for the person nominated, if you like you can add a short reason why your nominating the particular forum member, no need for seconding the nominations or repeating a nomination, once a member has been nominated they automatically go onto the nominated list pending acceptance/declination. Please keep the reason for nominating short & to the point the for reason mentioned in this post from mods here

Post in thread 'Forum moderator nominations 2024'

https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/forum-moderator-nominations-2024.204206/post-2703971

The paragraph for how to nominate from the opening post from the administrator

HOW TO NOMINATE:

Please tag a forum member to nominate them (you can say why too if you like, but please keep this post about nominations). All forum members must confirm their nomination (unless self-nominating) before they will be added to the nominations list.

We have so many members I think would make fab mods, and many of them have already been nominated.
But there are many others who I think would add something to the team. Some of them because of specific knowledge, others because of their patience, or because they read closely and respond accordingly, or because of regularly responding to unanswered posts, or simply for their unveiled enthousiasm in life and about the people on this forum.

In many of you it's a combination of those things, but in all of you I sense a strong involvement in the forum and the people in it.

So I'd like to nominate in alphabetical order @catinahat , @eventhorizon , @Fairygodmother , @jjraak , @jpscloud , @LittleGreyCat , @Marie 2 , @Margarettt , @Melgar , @Ryhia , and @Ushthetaff .
I would be happy to be moderated by any of you!

Thank you @Antje77! I can't commit to helping as a moderator at the moment, but appreciate the thought.

Edit: I agree with all your other nominations as well.

@Ushthetaff . Ever thought of putting yourself up for the role?

You have just been nominated….

Mistakes, we’ve made a few in the past, but then again “to few to mention.”
The “imperfections” help..

Take your time young man. :) “my mama used to say..” just hit the nomination curfew with a response….

To those of you still undecided whether to accept the nomination, or nominate yourself, or someone else, a bit more info on mod duties to help make up your minds….

The main duty is to keep the forum a safe and welcoming place for all.

Moderators do have to be willing to log in fairly regularly, and assist in all moderator) actions. Sometimes having to prioritise mod duties over other forum activities. They are mostly the mundane things, such as zapping spammers and investigating scammers, but occasionally there are some situations that require a lot of attention, and team discussions and decisions. So it is essential everyone in the team shares the load.

Also very occasionally there will be unpopular decisions and actions that need to be taken. Moderators need to be able to be robust enough to not be phased by any dissent, and remain impartial at all times. Especially if they need to edit or delete a post made by a well known, popular member, or even a member that seems to be unpopular. Sometimes it is necessary to moderate posts or posters that break rules even when you agree with a post and would personally prefer it to stay.

It can be frustrating when people discuss a moderation action on the boards and you can't relate the mod side of the decision, but the behind the scenes actions and discussions must remain confidential. So moderators cannot publicly respond to queries about moderator decisions.

We would encourage those undecided to consider asking questions of current mod team either here, or in a PM to any of us. We are looking forward to having new moderators and want to offer support to any who decide to accept a nomination to the forthcoming election.

Somewhere earlier in this thread I mentioned that moderators need to set a good example of how to conduct oneself in the forum. Then promptly forgot to respond to the nomination that was made for me.:bag:

So I am correcting that now, thanking @lovinglife for nominating me, and accepting the nomination.

Thanks for the nomination but unfortunately I’m not able to undertake the nomination , I’m a bit busy with dialysis 3 times a week , makes me a bit “ wasted” ( so what’s the difference I hear you ask lol) it’s is definitely something I would consider in the future ,

Thank you so much for the nomination @Antje77 I really appreciate your nomination. This site has helped me tremendously, the many amazing people here who have inspired me to control my diabetes, to understand it, and to pass on what I have learnt to others who struggle with it initially and , of course, living with this thing day to day.
I note that there is nobody in the PT time zone.
Thanks for your post explaiNing the role @Pipp .
I have gained such a lot and I definitely would like to be part of the team at some point.

My biggest concern is my eyesight, my eyes are seriously compromised, as referenced by my many edits. You will probably find an edit at the end of all this to.
I am useless with technology, I still send hand written letters.
I tend to ramble, May well be due to cognitive decline!
I’m a total nerd, I don’t know whether that is a positive or negative attribute.
I have a tendency to derail a thread,
and I am creative, but eccentric and I may not have the self discipline to control any of the above.

And I don't know when to shut up.

I am very appreciative of your nomination @Antje77 so a big thank you. I will definitely give it some serious thought.

@Antje77 I am very flattered thank you, but also, horrified :). I still consider myself new and in learning mode. The thought of others taking me seriously is enough to raise my bg numbers. In this instance I will politely decline but if we are all still here a year from now please do ask again.

I’ve slept on this, a bit of back and forth really , but I figured I have gained so much help and incite from the members on here I would like the opportunity to give back, so I’ll accept the nomination. I am nervous about it for all the reasons I stated earlier but a thank you. :cyclops::oops:

When I was nominated, feels like a lifetime ago, accepting was one of the scariest things I'd done so far in my life (yes, I'm that boring).
I had no idea what I jumped into, and as @Margarettt said "the thought of others taking me seriously was enough to raise my BG" (and jump wide awake in the middle of the night sometimes, sure that accepting my nomination was a mistake).

It wasn't.

Not only to you but to all the ones who accepted their nomination so far, just wait and see, and if you are elected there is all the room you'll need to grow into the job!

I totally relate to what @Margarettt said In her response. I feel I have only been an active member on this site for 5 minutes and who the hell do I think I am to put my hat in the ring! I’m still thinking that as I type. I have my own micro battles with my non sensical blood sugars, I’m flirting with that notion too. @Antje77 You are always so supportive and an inspiration. Thank you for your supportive words. And OMG you are so not boring!

Well, seeing as "diversity within the team" is one of the goals as per Administrators opening post, having a mod with a mystery type of diabetes sounds pretty good!

And thank you for your ridiculously kind words too. Don't overdo it, you might have to send me a stern alert on forum rules in the near future...
Most likely it will be on thread derailing, knowing myself, so I'll leave it at this on this thread.
I didn't want your kind words to go unacknowledged though, so thank you again!
