FREESTYLE LIBRE ON SALE!!!!

had an interesting situation... went out for a few too many beers. Usually id hypo after alcohol. I decided to have an aero chocolate on my way home as my blood sugar dropped to 4.6 and having the munchies, I bought a sneaky bag of pork scratchings. It was amazing, my blood sugar stayed between 5 and 6 the entire night.

Yesterday my blood sugar was so eratic so I went out and bought another bag of park scratchings. I ate a handfull as I am really careful as to the type of food that I eat. Usually I hardly eat any fat. My blood sugar stabilised immediatedly.

Anyone have any recomendations of good fats that I can incorporate into my diet?
Nuts, seeds, avocados, olive oil vinaigrette on salads,
(re alcohol, I was in town yesterday and it was freezing . We went into our normal bar for a coffee and they had an advert for vin chaud for 2€. That sounded good, first taste and it was full of sugar. (OH said it really wasn't that sweet but I eat very little sugar so it probably tastes sweeter to me)
Hastily give a bolus with guess at 10g carb but fast insulin was not quick enough to cope with it. My libre shows that BG was just going down nicely from a max 8mmol/l after lunch, about turn and it soared again, followed by a steep drop down to below 4 when the insulin kicked in; not a good choice )

Yes, this is my first Christmas as a paid-up diabetic and I've just realised that mulled wine is going to be full of sugar. We drive down to a Weinachtsmarkt in N Germany every year, and I'm not going to be able to have any glühwein. Bleaghh!!

I had Gluvine last night which is I think why I had that massive spike which would not come down!!! Not cool.

I went to the Birmingham German market last weekend and drank a champion amount of Gluvine, Gluvine with Rum and Blueberry wine. I must be lucky because the sugar seemed to offset the otherwise lowering properties of alcohol for me.

Tis the season to be jolly indeed!.

We mull wine at home but don't put any sugar in it, just the fruit. Still a bit sweet, but you don't suffer the huge spikes.

I guess it depends on the Gluvine. Mine was from Bournemouth. I love Brum Christmas market

glühwein or mulled wine is not good :spitoutdummy: - as it is heated most of the alcohol evaporates - no good for resolute alocfrolics like myself :wacky:

Good day so far:

...but Contour meter said 5.1 not 4.0 and I'm on the pop tonight so it could be down hill from here

Christmas market stalls at Brugges in Belgium were also selling red wine.
I had one of my lowest pre dinner BG readings after strolling around the Xmas market there one afternoon with a few plastic glasses of red wine.

Has Max the Moose improved his jokes?
I was sure it was a Reindeer head over the bar but OH insists it's a Moose.
I will probably be there some time in the next week or so.

Can anyone explain to me about the Daily Patterns screen? I spoke to three people at Abbott today who didn't seem to know without checking. I couldn't understand them anyway.

What is the black line and what is the shadowy shape. Simple English please.
I am not usually dim, but I couldn't understand the handbook either.
Thanks tricia

Daily patterns. The black line is your median (50th percentile) glucose reading and the pale blue area is the range in which your glucose readings have fallen at that time of day.

Ideally, you'd have a narrow band of blue and a flat line right in the middle of your target range.

Imagine ur daily line is drawn on one graph everyday.

The blue area represents everywhere that your daily line has hit over that timeframe.

The black line is the average of all the days.

I'm getting confused when I see ppl from the forum post on Facebook with real names! Lol

My sensor is hurting a little this morning - I think I must have slept heavily on it overnight. Has anyone else had this? I'm not going to remove it because it's also reminding me that it expires on Tuesday lunch time - which means I have to put my new one on tomorrow evening to let it settle in - is it really 2 weeks since I put this one on? I can't believe it - I feel like it's making time time go faster LOL - next time I change it Christmas will have come and gone!

Incidentally, I ordered a couple more sensors last Sunday and they arrived Wednesday.

Smidge

My last sensor ended yesterday so I'm now back to finger pricking and missing the Libre's trend graph already. All the BG tests I have done since yesterday have been around what I expected but I can't help thinking about the rises and falls I'm not seeing. I went to bed last night with a BG of 5 and woke up with a BG of 5 and I'm 100% certain that I was not as flat as that all night.

Abbott still have not refunded the VAT from my original purchase - Charlotte keeps telling me that it'll be refunded any day now but has been saying that since the beginning of November - I've told her that I won't be purchasing any more sensors until it is.

I ended my 'How Sticky Is It' experiment today - the sensor had been on for 30 days and it was still sticking well - but it was easier to peel off compared to the others.
