hi long story short, oh very poorly with lack of appetite, stomach pains, burping, unable to ear a meal etc
GP miffed, has had loads of scans and blood tests. All negative/normal. I came across this today, would the symptons appear as being stabbed in the stomach? Tia Chrissie

Surely someone knows something? Just back from A&E all blood tests normal, been advised to up the morphine for the pain, he still can't eat so I took him to the hospital. What else can I do? He's getting thinner and thinner?

@myracat Bumping this for you :)

Bear in mind it's a Bank Holiday so the forum is quieter.

Can you tell us a little about your OH? What type of diabetes does he have? How's his control?

If the GP is puzzled and can't find the cause then they should refer your OH over to the Gastroenterology Clinic at your local hospital, just go back and insist on a referral.

Type 2 since December 16, Metformin followed by slow release Metformin, Gliclazide, I didn't keep up with it all as I thought it was under control however he got stomach cramps with the Metformin and it has gone on from there, with GP and diabetic nurse they have got his BS down to somewhere around 8, GP said under 10 is fine.

For some reason they skipped this step and referred him to chronic pain clinic. Today is 2nd time we've been to A&E

I'll tag @donnellysdogs as she has had experience of stomach/digestive issues.

You said he's had all the tests so I presume they've ruled out things like an ulcer, gallstones, etc etc?l

Is it a constant pain or does it come and go?

While you're waiting for more replies, I've done a search for you:

http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/search/25406926/?q=Gastroparesis&t=post&o=relevance

It shows all the threads that mention Gastroparesis (including yours at the top there). Some people are merely saying they think they might have it, or it's been ruled out, so you'll have to skim through them, but hopefully you can find some information there.

Anything healthy!
My dr thinks I may have gastroparesis, I often feel unwell after eating, wanting to vomit and my stomach feels very uncomfortable to the point I can't bear anything around my stomach. He's sending me for a endoscopy and a ct scan.

Look at giftuk on face book.

With a T2 diagnosis and metformin, it could be more related to metformin or change in diet possibly?

Depends on what tests have been carried out .

You could (as I had to do) pay privately and book up to see a gastroenterologist yourself. Or you could wait eventually for a referral and a long wait.
If you pay privately for an appt and it is self funded they will normally put patient back on NHS for tests to be carried out...

Your OH needs a egg sandwish timed test to see if it is gastroparesis. However, before this is requested by a consultant it is likely that the cameras up and down will have to be done first.

Scans and blood tests show basics only.

For burping, I have to ask does OH eat onion and tomatoes in anything? If so eliminate these immediately.. no ragu sauces, no soups at all and no real unprocessed forms either. Try this for 2 months. No gravy and look at everything that is processed.. so tomatoes and onions are off totally.
Must be done for two months. Total elimination.

Is OH taking PPI's of any sort ie gaviscon, rennie etc?

Morphine will slow stomach down and make stomach worse.... he should not be on morphine for plstomach pain. Its the worst thing to have.

Try buying oil of oregano capsules (internet) and pomi-t tablets. Natual and anti inflammatory. Would need to be stopped one week before any cameras up and down.

What are OH stools like?

The lack of appetite, burping and being unable to eat a meal does seem like a gastroenterology clinic would be appropriate given all other avenues have been explored, I'm no expert on such matters @myracat and merely offering my own opinion on what I would do.

Really hope you find the cause of his troubles and he is back to good health soon. Best wishes.

Sorry, he's not eating ANYTHING
No PPIs
Private funding out of the question as s/e no insurance
Stools most recent bright yellow
No egg sandwiches as allergic to eggs
Not taken Metformin for at least 2 months
Does this help?

What stomach tests have they done?

It would be worth getting £250 from somewhere and seeing a consultant privately... then they would put him back on NHS. However, as you say this is impossible you need to join giftuk closed facebook group and find suggestions of a good nhs consultant specialising in GP near you (or he may need to be prepared to travel). Then go to your GP and ask for a referral to that consultant at that hospital . A tertiary hospital is best.
Dont take no from GP.
Say you have done the legwork and you need GP help to just get a letter written to xx Consultant.
Show a picture of poo and ask GP if he thinks thats normal! Say its a record that will be kept.

Then.... follow this up daily with secretary at your GP.

Then write a letter to the consultant direct with all details. Ie no eating, how many times he is bringing up bile, what happens when eats (using burp word needs to be changed-there is another word for it). Bloating, send pictures of poo and bloating.
Explain thoroughly tests that have been done and negative.

Ask your GP and in letter for a stomach timed emptying test. This is normally done with an egg sandwich, so make sure they aware that he is allergic to eggs.

This is first steps.

Has he had the cameras up and down and SIBO tests?

My daughter has been suffering similar symptoms, not so much the pain but no appetite, nausea, vomiting, feeling full very quickly and weight loss. She isn't diabetic, but is waiting for tests for Helicobacter Pylori, a stomach infection. Maybe something else for you to consider?

Oil of oregano capsules can help steer the small intestines away from bacteria. You must stop taking them a week before any operation or investigation due to it keeping blood nice and fluid...

My gastro was amazed because he waa expecting the infection in me, and it wasnt. He put it down to the oil of oregano capsule I take every day.

HP infection can be sorted with antibiotics.

Please keep in mind that with all those symptoms that you may need to ask for a timed stomach emptying test as well.

Significant things for GParesis is the "no appetite and feeling full", gagging/vomit as that is a reflex when the stomach cannot naturally empty into the colonic /intestinal region.

Bloating as well immediately after eating a mouthful. It isnt normal human "bloating" that humans can sometimes complain of. Its when you go from being a skeleton to looking 9 months pregnant with an ounce of water (sometimes this is all thT is needed).

Especially with you gaters it can be put down by Doctors to eating disorder... and boy, they are so wrong....
Its truly dire wanting to eat and your body rejecting all food.

Truly, check out giftuk on facebook.
Find tertiary hospitals
Look at consultants.. professors and ask GP for a referral.
If you have approx £250 ask Secretary of Consultant for private consultation. If not when GP has written letter write (with photos of sick, poo and bloating) directly to the secretary. It will be seen by the consultant/professor and will be put in your file when created.

You may have to fight and battle to get sorted but please think... you are not fighting medics.... you are fighting for your health.... you are scared a d afraid and this needs to come over in any chats with medics....
