Grapes? How many?

I use 1g per grape as a rough calculator. So, 2 would be fine I reckon, 5 maybe, 10? Time to bolus again:(

YMMV

I won't, because they have a lot of fructose.

You might be able to, and the way to find out if you should is to do a couple of testing sessions with grapes in isolation from anything else that might affect your BG.

I thought natural sugar was fine and bought some grapes and some cherries, while in hospital my husband brought them in for me instead of sweets or chocolate, I don’t know how many of each I’d had but a nurse told me to drink plenty of water to flush away the sugar as I shouldn’t have had more than 5 of one or thee other I dread to remember what my blood sugar reading was well I didn’t know!

Grapes are high carb and I found it useful to have 2 or 3 when I felt wobbly due to my blood glucose levels dropping quickly in the early days after diagnosis. along with a warm drink it stopped the unpleasant feeling very quickly. It was at the time when I was most likely seeing a return to more normal responses to insulin as a result of consistently low intake of carbs - 50 gm a day max. back then.

How I use 'portion control' is when high carb fruit that I have loved comes into season and is growing on the property, I allow myself a portion, otherwise I would be too too sad. I do this usually by popping a couple of grapes in the bottom of my sparkling wine glass, and have lovely alcohol infused grapes in season. We're talking maybe two a week? For a month? They are not as sweet as store bought grapes either.

I do the same with peaches. So I have one peach, maybe 8-10 grapes, a feijoa, a couple of passionfruit, per season. Oh, and a tamarillo! The passionfruit and tamarillo I buy at the store as I am not growing them. Sigh.
