Has any one else noticed how much a few grapes and raise your blood glucose
there was me thinking they would be good for you had 5 and bloods raised quite a lot

Many people in here call grapes 'sugar bombs'.
If in doubt of the effect on yourself (should always be in doubt the first time), Google the carbs in a food before eating it.
Most fruits hit us quite hard in the blood glucose.

Same goes for me with grapes. Grapes (and almost all fruit) have been off limits with me for years.

The only exception is when they're allowed to ferment. Less sugars when taken that way.

Thanks I know mpost fruits contain sugars but I was always under the impression they were not quite the same as Sucrose sugar and caused a lot less harm, I only got them because they were reduced in T***o now a pretty expensive bird food

Member @Antje77 uses the ones that grow in lush abundance by her front door, as hypo-treatment. That should tell you enough. ;)

I thought, how bad can it be, right, when I was served two or three at a meal. And I hadn't had any in years, used to love them... But in no time at all, my heart was racing, knees wobbly, face flushed... My blood glucose shot up like a rocket. There's lots of things in the world that contain things that are good for us. Vitamines especially, in fruits, pulses etc.... But if there's also a lot of sugar/carbs in there, it's just not worth the downside of having higher blood glucose. Plenty of vitamins to be found elsewhere.

You mean "little bags of mostly sugar" ? Sadly carbs are carbs, doesn't matter if they're brown or white (Complex carbs) Sucrose, Glucose or Fructose they all have the same effect on our malfunctioning endocrine systems

When I was on Gliclizide 3 grapes would bring me out of a hypo faster than jelly babies

GRAPES are not low. All fruit has sugar plus fructose. It is the fructose that can only be processed by the liver, and I have read that you should avoid processed sources of fructose. Have you tried eating your protein, then fats, carbs then fruit in that order. They say that will reduce spikes. Try cherries or blackberries for snacking instead

Cherries are still fairly high in carbs - red cherries have 12g carb per 100g, not as high as grapes but still on the higher side and difficult to have just one or two as a snack

Grapes have a significant amount of fructose around 12.4 grams per cup. A significant and avoidable amount of work for the liver.

Thank you for the replies, I gave them to the birds
luckily I love blackberries and have several pounds frozen, I pick them local on my walks every year

I only eat grapes in small quantities (3-4) and with protein/ fat, usually Brie. Fortunately I have a husband and daughter who will eat the rest of the punnet - in fact I only have grapes at all because they buy them!

The fruit I'm having most trouble resisting is figs as my mum has loads in her garden right now and they are so delicious :nailbiting:
