When you say "detoxing" do you mean just drinking water (fasting) or cutting out certain foods? If so, which foods do you plan to remove from your diet?

There are so many types of detoxing regimes out there it would be handy to know a little more:)

Precisely which toxins do you think you need to remove? if your liver and kidneys aren't removing them, you'll need to be hospitalised.

Like the one where you drink herbal tea and cut right down to kick start the body again

So I'm assuming there is no sugar in the herbal tea - shouldn't be a problem.

"Cut right back"; on calories? Again not a problem providing that you continue to take the correct amounts of insulin with your meals and adjust your background insulin to suit the changes your making. You may find you need less background insulin when eating less.

It's also important to monitor your BGL (even more closely) when making adjustments to your normal routine. It would be best to speak with your doctor prior to making any changes though.

Just be aware that the whole "Detox" thing is a complete myth that was created to sell stuff. It doesn't cleanse you of anything that shouldn't be there. About the only thing it clears out is your wallet! :greedy::greedy::greedy:

I wouldn't know how to manage my insulin with just teas. You could do a gentler one and just eat green veggies with a sqeezed of lemon juice. Both are cleansing. Dandelion tea as well.
What are you trying to cleanse ? Or just general cleaning and giving organs a rest? Detoxing can be stressful on the body and give bad side effects, just an FYI

I've never done anything as extreme as that. Sometimes if I'm feeling a bit unhealthy or have been eating too much **** I make a point of upping my veg intake eg salad for lunch not just a sandwich, but I think an overall healthy diet most of the time is better than a 'detox'.

If you're going to go for a big chnage like this, it might be wise to check with your DSN first because they may have some tips for adjusting your insulin.

Personally I don't agree with 'de-toxing' as your body is already doing this for you. If you want to feel a bit healthier then up your veg intake and drink lots of water ;)

Hi. If you really need detoxing then you will have failing liver and kidneys and probably need to be treated in hospital. What I'm really saying is that the liver and kidneys etc do a fine job of removing unwanted stuff from your body and detoxing solutions make plenty of money for the advertisers and probably do very little for those taking them. They have little to do with diabetes.

You can drink herbal tea's as part of a healthy diet.
Yes - they've always been a regular part of my diet - mainly because I enjoy them.

I always thought that part of the job of our liver and kidneys was to manage any real detoxing our bodies might need. And I think that the only "detoxing" you'd need to do for a low carb diet is basically to avoid eating all the high carb stuff and replace it with good healthy low carb food, and your body will clean things up itself and soon get rid of any existing "addiction" to carbs it may have.

The liver and kidneys were designed to do just that. If they are no longer doing it you would be in big trouble and in hospital. Please do not take the loony fringe dwellers seriously - there is not a shred of scientific evidence to support detoxing. It is only used to sell products or books.

Customer helplines that use recorded menus that promise to put me through to the right person but never do - and being ill. Oh, and did I mention customer helplines :)
hi sullybear i agree with almost everything above but if you want to help your liver and kidneys you could cut back on things like caffeine and alcohol (if you drink tea coffee & alcohol) for a while but other than eating a well balanced diet and keeping your blood sugars under control there is little else you can do.
