Had my bloods done last week, my blood pressure has been high of late so tested my kidneys etc for my BP meds to be increased. Have my diabetic review Thursday.

It's weird, my BP has never been high, but for some reason of late it is.

Since July, I've been pretty good, I've lost just over 3st (30kg) and mostly OMAD, which is usually a meat, peppers, onions, mushrooms, little sauce and cheese, but I have had other things.

I've reduced carbs a lot, but I will still on the odd day go over my carbs, whether it be a couple (I do mean a few not like I used to) chips, or odd slice of bread for a sandwich. My weight is coming down so I feel I am doing okay for my diet.

I find low carb not hard, but a little dull (I suppose that's how everyone feels at first?), I think I need to have a bit more variety. Anyone else have this? I've got some keto cookbooks and stuff, but nothing ever really seems appealing, I like cooking and I like cooking from scratch.

Anyway, it's been about 19-months since I was diagnosed (can't remember my original reading, but I think it was mid 60s?) but with my bloods this week I finally have a diabetic review with the nurse.

Excited to see my reading, I did go about 12-month or so off the rails (Covid, life, etc) but since July I've been working hard. So if it's higher or lower, I'm not too fussed as the next one should be drastically lower (is the hope!)

Will let you know how I get on on Thursday!

Good luck on Thursday!
You are similar to me with originally being in the mid 60's numbers at first, and I also went out of control (for different reasons) but AGAIN like you, I started to low carb in July and my results were a pleasant surprise, so finger's crossed that yours will be too x

There is a huge variety of recipes and foods to try when on low carb - what do you like to eat?

When I first started I thought about the foods I enjoyed and sort substitutes for these.
I have an occasional slice of bread, but only low carb or 90s bread made with ground almonds - to have with cheese or bacon and mushrooms. I used to eat a lot of rice and now have recipes for risotto and stir fry rice using cauliflower rice. I have pasta sauces with chicken but without the pasta or with courgetti. I swapped puds for either full fat Greek yogurt with a few raspberries or a 'crumble' made with ground almonds instead of flour and rhubarb - served with double cream. And I make a low carb orange or chocolate cake a couple of times a month (between 3g and 6g a slice).

For most omnivores, there is nothing dull about low carb unless you don't like 'real food'. But since you say you like to cook from scratch then surely this isn't the case for you. Even the spices and flavourings that do contain significant carbs are used in such small quantities so as not to be a problems. Low carb substitutes for Rice, Potato, pasta, noodles aren't perfect, but they enable us to eat close approximations to: Pizza, Spag Boll, Curries, Chilli, mash, 'potato salad', chips, bread, cake, etc.
