Morning ball , my GP has changed and the GP has quoted my results as 54? Could anyone help with conversion please as I usually get a figure such as 7.3 etc , thankyou

Today - 6 month checkup. HbA1c is 42.
My diabetes Nurse now calls this "too low". Sigh.
Apart from a lust for power ("you WILL get up to 48, so we can label you Diabetic and keep us in our jobs"!) I really can't see what their motivation is. For the last 5 years they've been bitching when it's too high!
My only consolation is that under the UK's NHS system, having the label of Diabetic gets me free medication for ANYTHING the doctor prescribes, not just for diabetes.

Oh good grief. Sometimes we can't do right for doing wrong. What a terrific achievement, though it would be a hot day in Manchester if any of us could get some kudos for doing what we've done, or being asked what we have done, which could be used to help others.

But - you rock! You've done it! The hell with the unsupportive medics. I hope you get one of the good ones soon.

Well done you. Unfortunately I live in Germany and as I am in the grey area Pre diabetes and Type 2, using diet and fitness to keep a relative low HbA1c, we are not entitled to prescription for the test sticks. This cost me about 600 Euros (£520) per year.

Did you ask her why she said it was 'too low'?

Your nurse thinks a normal HbA1c is "too low"? You're t2, aren't you? I wonder if your nurse may be confused....

When I was diagnosed, I had scored just under my country's limit for a diabetes diagnosis in the middle of December, so when I tested 0.1 percentage points over the limit in my follow-up visit in January (thanks to Christmas eating), my doctor told me that it was a good thing. Even though having an official diabetes diagnosis at 41 was scary, there wasn't much difference between being highly pre-diabetic and diabetic, and at least this way I could get the prescriptions and check-ups I needed through the national health care system. I get my eyes checked for free every year, where I once had to pay for it (due to rifts in my very myopic retinas) and my doctor generously put me on a 4 strips a day prescription that I've been able to just renew each year as needed.

They prefer type ones to be a tad higher than the prediabetic range so the odds they hypo regularly are lower. Does not apply to a T2 at all. Ignore. Ignore. Ignore. ;)
