Type 2 Help needed

Hi everyone,
Got diagnosed type 2 in March, did the Newcastle diet for April and lost over a stone but since then I lost my home to a fire and also made redundant - so fell off the wagon so to speak!
Not looking for sympathy at at all, but now fed up with feeling like **** physically and mentally every day and need to start taking this seriously again.
No idea on my current blood sugars, but assuming not good as feeling ****!

Just wondering if anyone has tried a keto diet?

I am doing Keto and find it very effective. I do test frequently as well. Best of Luck.
 
You don't really need any plans as such, just base your meals around real food. Meat, fish, cheese, eggs, healthy fats like olive oil and butter and above ground leafy veg and salad. Avoid the obvious carbs like bread, pasta, cereals and most fruit.
Low carb, say less than 100g a day should improve your blood sugar control.
Very low carb, 50g or less should get you into ketosis and turn you into a fat burning machine. Weight loss, low blood sugars all without any hunger.

I find the keto diet the best and most effective way for me to control my sugar levels. I don't follow a plan I just know what foods are and are not keto these days. Think clean rich fats, avoca, olive oil, some cheese, meats like chicken, salmon, beef, lots of green veg and salad, essentially just avoid bread, starchy food, rice etc it really helps stabilise blood sugars.

You should also watch the program/documentary the diabetic solution. It's about children with type1 diabetes and the benefits of a low carb diet super interesting!
 
A low carb diet is what keeps me in remission.
I find it really easy to do these days - after 5 years, and I think it helps me stay cheerful.

Hi and welcome. You'll find a lot of people here have been down this road already and are living a keto or low carb lifestyle (I don't get hung up on the definitions). In ten days it will be three years for me - BGs to low normal in four months, total weight loss more than 25kg, waist at 34 down from 40+.... I'm playing football again....feeling great. Never have been hungry, which is really important.

Keto for me means being in ketosis and burning fat almost all the time. To achieve that I stick to around 20g carbs/day - the equivalent of one apple. No bread, pasta, rice, flour, sugar etc. Plenty of fresh meat and dairy, and some green veg.

Best of luck. I found this forum really helpful in my early days.

I've always been pretty overweight despite being a T1 diabetic, and I've only just really started to actively look to lose it. Upon discussion with my GP, I've 'gone keto'. I haven't even been exercising much, but I've been losing around 2lb a week and I've managed to reduce my insulin dose. I'm not very strict, I just cut out bread, rice, pasta and replaced them with low carb / high protein options (the skinny food company do some good bread alternatives, and I've been using cauliflower rice and shirataki noodles to curb my carb cravings!).

It was a bit of a pain to begin with, as I used to LIVE on carbs / no perishable foods which so happen to be high in carbs... however, it's worth it! Good luck.

Considered for sure. Just make sure you do the research a bit first and ask lots of questions. There are a few potential hiccups which some sources make out to be a far bigger issue than they need to be. Almost all have solutions. Alternatively start a bit more slowly with low carb first and work your way towards keto. I’ve been doing keto, low carb whatever you want to call it since end June. I’m now off most of my medication just down to trulicity once a week, also off all hypertension medication and feel so much better. It’s well worth it in my eyes. I’d say go for it, but discuss it with health care providers as it can affect some of medication and test test test so you know what’s causing your blood sugar rises.

Quick question, when you say dairy - are you including cheese (I adore cheese, but thought they were full of salt)?
