Hi pingapong and welcome to the forums. I have no personal experience of your situation and my normal advice about lowering blood glucose through cutting carbs, intermittent fasting and so on could well be inappropriate for someone in your situation.

I'm going to tag a couple of people who might know more than me.

@AndBreathe @VashtiB @EllieM

Thanks @KennyA . I am thankfully not to have shared experiences, or gone through the treatments @pingapong has, but I'll help where I can.

@pingapong , are you taking any medications for your diabetes at the moment? If so, could you share which meds they are, as it could influence suggestions anyone might make. Sad;y, steroids are known to really make blood sugars rise for many who take them.

I totally commend you for wanting to get your bloods into a great place, but the over arching thing is to get your cancer inti a good place.

Steroids can up blood sugar levels for a while, a week, maybe two. If you're not seeing higher numbers than 11, you might choose to ride it out? If they get higher, it may help to talk to your doc about medicinal options. (Your oncologist may refer you to an endo for now!) Also, you had the meds for a treatment which, I don't know, may be recurring? Just keep an eye on your blood sugars and adjust medication for the T2 as needed with your doc or a specialist's help... Right now treating cancer is the priority, so if your blood sugars are elevated for a little bit, by a relatively small margin, that just might be the trade-off that needs to be made for the time being. If you feel it's getting out of hand though, call in the troops for help. You don't have to do this alone.

Hugs and hope you get better soon!

Hi @pingapong , I don't have experience with T2 or cancer so I don't think I know more than @KennyA but I just wanted to say that while those levels are higher than normal they are not (in my opinion) dramatically hospital inducing high. An average blood sugar of 10mmol/L corresponds to an hba1c of 59mmol/mol . (I personally have had years of levels higher than that and I've still got all my limbs, eyes and organs working).

To be honest, I agree with @JoKalsbeek and @AndBreathe , T2 is a long term issue while the cancer is probably more important in the short term .

Can I ask what diabetic meds you are on at the moment and whether you've talked to your doctor(s) about your levels?

Lots of virtual hugs.

Hi all thanks for the replies, I'm on metformin 500mg twice a day. And yes I have spoken to my GP and consultant and both seem happy with levels for the short term but how long is short term. I'll be seeing my consultant in 3 weeks I'll ask him about it again
