How high is the High Fat of LCHF??

How high is high fat it is however high you want it to be there are no rules about it. When I joined the forum a while ago now the talk here was all about high fat and people were eating lots of full fat dairy as in cream butter milk yogurt and lots of saturated fat in red meats. A few random people.. who the majority of folk have never heard of... had said in the media that fat is good for us but it has not been sanctioned yet and may never be by the medical profession so it has never really taken off. I actually believe people prefer foods that are moderate to low in fat and they eat it from choice they do not eat as much red meat anymore but eat a lot more chicken and fish.

Did you ask?

You were so enthusiastic about getting that specialist appointment but it seems you got little from it. You've described a variety of symptoms here so I'd have hoped you got a more thorough answer from the specialist.

Why are you so cagey and monosyllabic about him? If he wasn't helpful or was unprofessional n some way then you could ask to see someone else.

It's high in fat to compensate for being low in carb. You need your energy to come from somewhere.

Does it matter?

To you? Well, if it was me, I'd say it matters. I know you had a bit of a fight to get a referral to a specialist so I would have thought you'd have wanted a little more from him than what sounds like a quick flick through your notes and no further tests.

Does it matter?
Well, considering how many people on here have spent a great deal of time trying to help you, and support you in your quest for both answers and a suitable way of managing how you are feeling, I think that yes, it does matter.

If only for the sake of manners to myself and fellow posters. We wouldnt have bothered if we didnt care. Also the information may well help someone else who post on here with similar symptoms and questions and searches the forum for advice.

I disagree that eating full fat has not taken off on here. I also object to the people who have done studies and made videos and read book being referred to as a few random people.. who the majority of folk have never heard of...
Also this may be true of some "I actually believe people prefer foods that are moderate to low in fat" but not all and not the majority.

Thank you for posting that !!

@ghost_whistler , We have offered so many different ways to try to change your diet, switch macros or meals , offer sympathy etc . It seems if you're not going to take the time to ask frommedical tests and possible dietary changes then you're really not looking for answers, from anybody.

But you had lots of anecdotal evidence from forum members that this wasn't true..chicken (at least lean breast) causes my blood sugar to go up a bit whereas fatty thighs don't.. I prefer steak anyway. And just had my eggs with butter and cheese tea.

I too need fat with meals if the protein is lean. Mayo and avocado work well. Chicken thighs are way better than breasts but I don't eat the skin. Cheese or nuts would work too. Olive oil is like water and does absolutely nothing to stop any spike. Lamb is my prefered red!! Love it.

Could you send me the skin please... I'll pay the postage..!

LMAO!!!!
Chicken wings were one of my favorite appetizers but now they make me very resistant. Sad days for me but thighs are just as good.

My dog was very old and sick. Slept all the time. I would roast him some chicken skin and give some to him a few times a day and within minutes he was like a puppy!! Gotta be something good in it!!!

I have changed my diet, what are you referring to?

What information? The appointment consisted of the dr looking at my history and making a diagnosis. I can't go back in time and tell him how to do his job. I told him that i was managing my diet differently and changing diet is the only advice you will get from a doctor.

Because this isn't really the thread for this conversation.. If I want to discuss the appointment then respectfully allow me to do so my way.

The appointment went the way it did. There is no cure for hypoglycemia. I have no intention of drinking glucose, particularly after starting a no sugar diet. the only way to deal with it is diet so there is little else that dietary orthodoxy can propose. We all know this.

In some way I agree with you!
If you have RH, then a change of diet to stop the hypos is the best anyone can expect. There is no cure, there is a big chance to get your life back if you are prepared to look at our forum and experiment and record all your own individual findings how certain foods effect your blood levels.
Do you know wether you have the condition or symptomatic?
The thread is about fat and I'm lazy, a level of saturated fat is needed to offset the low carb and like me avoid vegetables fats or polyunsaturated etc. because they have a diverse effect of my digestion and speed up the hyper, whereas saturated fat slows it down, the same with full fat rather than low fat, we metabolise cats differently because of the quick glucose boost into hyper.
And if we hyper, if we don't eat we hypo!
I would avoid glucose as well!
But it does give you an idea how it reacts with your level of insulin resistance and how high the insulin response is. High blood levels and obesity is synonymous with high insulin levels and insulin resistance.
Keeping your levels in near normal levels can help so much in getting to grips with controlling RH.
If you need further help, please post in the RH forum, where when I get time I will respond.
Your sound as if you are struggling and need understanding with your symptoms especially the frustration of it all.
It took me years to get here. Please let us help.

Best wishes

Never really taken off???? :banghead: Eating full fat used to be the norm prior to the 1970s/80s when biased research persuaded many people otherwise. As a species we actually survived quite well eating that way previously.

I've never understood this nonsense about taking natural fats out of food and then having to replace them with sugary carbs and chemicals to add some flavour back in.

Higher fat in LCHF is only so compared to all the low fat stuff, it's actually normal fat, and is required to replace the energy we'll no longer get from eating carbs, and IMO is far better for us - (for me at least in terms of health!). But I agree that it's up to us as individuals to determine what and how much fat we need on a healthy LCHF diet. All I've ever needed to do was cut back right down on my carb intake again and up my fat slightly to compensate, but I've always eaten and preferred normal full fat foods for over 70 years...

Exactly what I said yes people did eat a lot of fat back in the day but I do not think the generations today or in the future will ever eat that amount of saturated fat again

I still stand by what I said I do not think the general public would have heard of those few people who said fat is good.

I do not think that that people will ever go back to eating as much saturated fats as they did back in the days There so much more choice in foods now much of which is lower fat. People had to eat only what they could buy. Meat had fat on it if you didn't like it you cut it off....which I always did.. chicken was to expensive to buy for every day meals so we only had that or turkey at Christmas cooked meat was ham and corned beef and Spam came in tins . Bread and potatoes bulked out a meal and we had lots of stews with root vegetables and dumplings. We could only buy seasonal fruit and vegetables pasta and pizza was unheard of except in Italy I think and we ate rice only as a milk pudding. We could only get salad stuff in the summer and had that usually for Sunday tea with ham or tinned salmon Now food is endless and we can buy anything from around the world and low or high fat we all have that choice and many will still choose the low or moderate fat way
