i am a member on another non related forum and have a paypal monthly payment set up to help with running of that forum, not a lot but every little bit helps, to quote a Supermarket, is there any thing like this on this site, always nice to give something back, and I can not give advise yet!

If you want to give back spreading the word is enough :)

If you're throwing money around!
I could do with a few Bob!

The wife said .. just send it to her ... muttered something about shoes ... o_O
You hang on to your cash and spread the word about how wonderful we all are here :angelic:

Why on earth would anyone want to pay to use a forum? If this place starts asking me for money I'll be well gone!

I think websites like this are sponsored by adverts. Lots of them from diabetes related products. There is also an online shop here I believe

Yep, there's a shop and we have adverts. Technically we're not sponsored by the ads themselves, though. :)

I think there's a big difference between demands for money, ie a fee to use a forum, and donations. I also am/was a member of a few other forums, covering many different issues and a couple of those have been set up by individuals to help others. Unless it's a large forum, helped by sales, or charity status or fundraising, I see no issue with donating money towards monthly running costs - especially if I've benefitted from its use.

I think I'll set up another forum and this time charge money! I didn't realise people were willing and wanting to pay for something that usually has near zero running costs. What would people like I can have one up and running in an hour?

If I know that a person, who is living a normal life and has their own domestic bills to pay, spends money out of their wages to fund a forum - I'll gladly donate. It might be "near zero" to operate but it's something - and something isn't zero. If I appreciate the time they give to oversee its running, and it helps me, I absolutely think it's the decent thing to give something back.

I'm sure if you're capable of getting one up and running so quickly, you will definitely be able to come up with a forum idea for yourself:cool:

I don't think its zero running costs and definitely you cant have it up and running in an hour:)

Yes a free forum that can accommodate numerous topics can be up and running in an hour and most of the internet is free to the user as advertising pays for it. You don't pay for Google Youtube etc. I'm on a very fast Linux machine so don't even pay for the operating system or any of the software Why would I pay for Microsoft office when I can have a better and free product in Libre Office? Same with all the music making software film picture editing software I use and which I'm encouraged by the makers to distribute far and wide for free?
No I don't expect everything for free in life but the internet and my hobbies and past times in computing cost me nothing. It's not a crime for people to want to share stuff and work together without money being involved.
