Shocked , dazed & bedraggled at the diagnosis

I'd say head on in to the forum once passing reception .

When I was new here
(Not new to other forums)

What helped me most was joining one of the "what's your BG level" chat groups

It was a good way to find out how well others are doing & a good source of encouragement early on when all of this is hardest I think, and we can be guided by others in avoiding the mistakes they made.

Other forum groups I found helpful where the "what did you eat today " types

A great source of information regarding how others react to certain foods with the benefit of meal ideas & great recipes.

It can be daunting joining any forum or group (here or otherwise)
But it's the best way to get the most out of the forum.

And gives a chance to network, make friends & feel we belong.

The membership are a friendly bunch, who have been exactly where you are AND benefitted as described above

So what many of us want to do most, is pass on that gift of understanding & caring we got on our arrival, to the next person needing a little hug & a warm welcome.

Don't be perturbed if your post just gets a like or friendly emoji not a full reply, it means someone read it & is trying to make you feel welcome.

Keep posting, replies will come.

Hi everyone. My name is Margaret, and I found out I had type 2 diabetes in 2016 with an HBA1C of 48. For several years I managed with diet alone. It was finding this site that gave me the info for the low carb way of living. My surgery gave me no guidance really, and this site has been a godsend, I have learned so much. I have been hiding in the shadows for a number of years, soaking up how everyone manages. My HBA1C is now 53, and I am on tablets. I was given metformin last year, but couldn’t tolerate it at all, and am now on canagliflozin and sitagliptin with no adverse reactions.

I do find it a bit hard at times, and I have been known to have the odd potato or piece of 85% choc, and I do allow myself a slice of cake at the weekend, but on the whole, I do stick to the straight and narrow.

I have been married now for almost 36 years. I have two daugthers, one son in law and three grandchildren ( two girls age 10nand one boy age 8) . one of my daughters reside in a city in Michigan,U.S. and the other lives and works in Japan. I am a pet parent to one dog and two cats. my husband had debilatating stroke 26 years ago. I am a Christian and a practicing protestant. I have a masters in Special Education and have continued to work in health care for over 45 years. I use microsoft tech devices. I love all types of music but listen to mostly Christian groups. Don't have any favorite shows television as worked two 40 hour a week jobs most of my adult life. I enjoy old movies though. I like to read cross stitch ,do crafts, mahjong and various other thing I get hankering to do. Prior to my husband stroke, we used to fish, gardening, go camping, visit flea markets, etc. I like baseball and follow Chicago Cubs, other sports I like are soccer and college football especially Nebraska Cornhuskers. I would like to get tatoo. I enjoy care for people but I also am easily angered. I am looking for support group as I have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes three years ago and still not very good at it.

Ive studied lots... massage, reflexology, Indian head, hot stones hopi ear candling, the Bowen technique, usui reiki and angelic reiki did my PPTLLS so was a tutor for quite a few years...we had our own training centre....before Covid!
Recently studied how to make candles soaps perfumes wax melts reed diffusers room sprays phew!!! I'm boring really
so I like to learn.
I did turn this into a business and it has been very successful for which I have to say eternally grateful!
Not much I like about myself to be honest, I'm short and carry some extra weight for which I am addressing and working on!

Hi, I’m Michelle (chelle) type 1 for 27 years maybe more? That I didn’t know I had.

4 injections a day and more if need a correction.

So I rebelled and hated being diabetic type 1 for years and years and abused my body. Didn’t listen to anyone.

Untill 2018 and 2019 I had kidney failure and was admitted into hospital in a coma (I was told) so came out with, nerve damage in my feet and legs, hands, scare on my kidney and I’ve had to have my right eye lasered once, left eye now 3 times as the damage is STILL, coming out.

Oh my hcb1 was 130! Now I’ve got it down to 62! Still some way to go.

My only regret is NOT looking after myself all them years
