Hi Al! Happy to be here!
Here is some info about me:
I'm Lisa, a 46 years old female

Originally from the United States, now living in Valencia, Spain. I'm type 1, as are my mom and my only sibling, my 49 year old brother. They've both been T1D for 40+ years, I'm at year 21.

I have two daughters, ages 11 and 15 (thankfully still antibody negative!), and I'm a dog person with a little rescue pup named Tito who follows me everywhere.

I've been following a low carb diet for the last 8 years and it's made an incredible improvement in my life. I was originally very resistant to it and avoided it for ages, but I'm very happy I gave it a go.

I'm friendly, open, and detail oriented (but also easily distracted!)
Looking forward to getting to know you here!

Hi, my name is Paula. I am 60yrs old but don't feel anywhere near that old. I live and work in Northampton. I am married, no children. I was diagnosed 10yrs ago approximately, put on diabetic medication which unfortunately had an adverse reaction, ie they sent by hbac in the wrong direction, way way up so much so A&E had to put me on Insulin to regain control and ween me off the medication i was given by GP. I was doing fab with Hbac of 4.6 taking 24units of insuman comb 25 twice daily and one metformin tablet. Pandemic hit and was working from home throughout, weight went up and so did my hbac. Not unusual as i believe this happened to alot of diabetics. I started having trouble getting my insulin last September and in November went to pick up my prescription to find i was put on another type of insulin called Nurleg which i had a major adverse reaction too, luckly i had one pen left of my usual insulin to fall back on. My GP contacted the diabetic team at the hospital who advised my GP insuman comb 25 was not being discontinued but now in Cartledge form and provided me with this and a reusable pen. In April 23 went to pick up my prescription and informed no supply which left me without insulin for 2days. No one from the surgery rang me / messaged me, i was just left. My sugar levels went up from 6 to 23.5 by the end of day 2. I rang GP on 2nd morning and spoke to practice manager who got me another new insulin called humanoid - thankfully no adverse reactions but have had to increase my twice daily dose to 32units each to try lower my gluscose levels as only managed to drop to 11 which is still way to high. I am very angry with the way i have been treated when i had spent months trying to avoid the situation i was put in. Needless to say i feel this is medical negligence and if i hadn't had put that complaint call in to my GP practice i don't know where i would be right now. I have only just increased my units of insulin, so hoping to start see a drop in next few days. I have been advised by the pharmacy that there is only one other type of insulin i can use if this one does not work for me. I feel very let down my those who are suppose to me there for me.

Hello to all, I’ve enjoyed reading about so many of you and look forward to learning more really soon. I’ve had type I diabetes for over 24 years and I’m currently on a Medtronic pump 670 and CGM. I live in North Carolina, USA. I feel fortunate to have found this site, as I love learning about other people’s experiences and the latest in diabetes treatments. I have the utmost respect for those who manage diabetes. It requires a lot of time, effort and energy, imo.

I‘ve been to England once many years ago and absolutely loved it! A return visit is on my Wish List. I’ll look forward to seeing you on the boards.

Hi All,

I should have searched for a forum like this a few months back. I was diagnosed with Type 2 about 6 months ago and it's been "interesting". I didn't do much about it for the first few months except pop some pills the doctors gave me. I'm now getting proactive instead of reactive.

Doctors put me on Metaformin and a statin immediately. Asked me to go on a 1,000 kcal diet to lose weight and get my BMI to the low 20's. Easier said than done. I said I will reduce the weight, I have done it before in the past. Realising is not so easy at this age.

I developed pain in my right side; high protein in the urine. Kidney disease.

I'm a logical, science-based person and mindset. Have done a lot of research myself and checked and cross-checked. Still researching and learning. So much to take in.

I've committed myself to water fast. Fully planned out vitamins, electrolytes, to get my weight under control and BMI to the low 20's. I'm on day 3. Going well. Day 1 was as I expected, hungry. I shall then adopt the keto diet or very low carb, when I hit the goal.

I thought I'd answer the front page questions to introduce myself.

- What is your name?
Most people who know me call me "Ram".

- How old are you?
52

- Are you male or female?
Male

- Which country are you from?
England. I consider myself British, my parents, heritage and genes are from India

- Which city/area do you live in?
Near London

- Are you religious?
No, ever since I was very young, younger than 10, I've been Aethist

- Pick three words to describe your personality.
Introvert, disagreeable, passionate

- Do you have any pets?
No. We used to have cats when I was a kid. I'm a cat person.

- Microsoft or Apple?
Both. Apple for the phone, tablet, MacBoo. MS for PC's, mini-servers, laptops.

- Which sport(s) (if any) do you like/play?
I like to play golf, not that good at it but I enjoy the walk and the peace. Don't like watching any sports.

- Do you get angry easily?
Yes, too easily, for such minor things too. I think it is one of the main reasons I am alone. Not because I was angry at anyone, or got angry at anyone, or anything like that. I know I am not a partner or husband material and have kept to myself throughout my life.

- Do you have any tattoos or piercings? If so, where?
No

- List your five favourite musicians/bands.
Mainly electronic dance - Tiesto, Daft Punk, Leftfield, Oakenfold, Lee Coombs, Meat Katie that kind of stuff
Chill to Fleetwood Mac, Chris Rea, The Midnight, ambient vibes

- What would you say your favourite music genre is?
Generally 70's, 80's pop culture and electronic trance/dance/house

- What is your favourite flag?
Country or design, Purely because of its simplicity, Japan.

- Ever gone camping?
Many times. Glastonbury 3 times.

- Ever been in love?
Yes, a couple of times. Bittersweet feelings and memories. Makes me smile of what once was, and that such things as intense and fleeting exist in this life, world, and universe.

- Ever used fake tan?
No. Don't need it.

- Which countries have you visited?
Many, over 40. I took up photography as a hobby, purely by chance. Was published on the front cover of a magazine and decided to go on photography/travel holidays.

- Favourite city?
Can't say, so many. I love the far east. Especially places that are starting to modernise. You get to experience the traditional, old-school life, merging and changing in a hot steel cauldron of modernity and tech.

- List your five favourite TV programmes.
My fondest memories, back in the day: A-team, Airwolf, Incredible Hulk, old school Doctor Who,

- List your five favourite films.
Bladerunner, Akira, Tomorrow War, Rogue One, LOTR, Hobbit

- Are you wealthy?
Compared to the country's average, technically yes. But, life is not about financial wealth, for me.

- Do you work? If so, as what?
Product Manager for a software company

- List the subjects you study/have studied.
Computing, Physics

- What do you like most about yourself?
Imagination and generosity

- What do you like least about yourself?
Temper and lack of sense of humour

I've had T2D for 20+ years, controlled with metformin & insulin but HbA1c & BP & weight are at the top end of acceptable, so I've come onto this forum for a bit of inspiration

Going through the suggested questions, here are my answers -

Male, 73, Lancashire, atheist, no pets
My computer skills are not very good; I use Windows 10, but I should make more of an effort to use it better. I used to be keen on 35mm film photography, but never got the hang of digital
Don't like the usual team games & sports, neither to do nor to watch
Music - showing my age as I like traditional & electric/folk rock, Prog Rock & the Canterbury Scene
I like camping - a lot of hiking & backpacking, summer & winter, mostly car - borne now
Never travelled much, apart from hiking trips to Wales & Scotland, and a couple of business trips to Eire
I was brought up in Manchester and used to like it, but now it has been vastly changed by the council, planners, and developers
TV Programmes - old comedies such as Monty Python, Hancock, Morecambe & Wise; various crime series especially Scandi Noir
Films - Waterloo, The Enemy Below, Magnificent Seven, Blazing Saddles, The Straight Story
Not wealthy but doing OK on my pensions; for most of my working life I was a technician in the food industry, ending up as a project leader
Qualifications - O & A levels, HNC in Applied Biology & Microbiology
