Hi my name is Little burger. Actually I call my little puppy that instead of little bu..er . I have just been diagnosed with diabetes after asking for blood test. Mother and uncle were diabetic. A bit of a shock when hba80c result came back, as I am 5ft 7 and was 9st 12lb. Went straight onto metformin 500gx2 a day. Now 3 months later and a stone lighter (9st) my bg is still 74. Now had test for 1.5 diabetes. Feeling depressed after being superfit all my life and underweight eating sensibly.

My thumbs up emoji is for the George Ezra comment. was fortunate to attend a really fun concert in Portland.

Hi, my name is Mike I'm from New Jersey in the United States. I'm in my 40s and I learned that I am pre-diabetic. I would like to figure out a diet that will be beneficial to me so that I can turn this around.

Hello James, I'm confused, you said you are from the UK but then you said Halle, Germany. Do you live in the UK by day and silently fly through the sky to Halle, Germany by night?

Discuss your sugars with ideally a specialist Dafne nurse only their course is geared to T1 but has a great deal to offer in carbs learning. If not available do specific carb tests where you can record what effects each of your favourite carbs do to your sugars. You will of course need to monitor the results.

Discuss and check if you'd be better on insulin only control might be greatly improved and not to worry I'm 61 47 with T1 and it doesn't stop me doing anything, stopped horse riding as I don't bounce so well these days. Ps never be afraid to ask open ended questions with your GP,. If your not happy or don't understand anything ASK ASK AND ASK until you do... life is important and you're your best Doctor.
All the best

Hello everyone. I have just joined. I am a 63-year-old mum to two daughters and grandma to five. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in November 2022 so am still getting to grips with everything involved. I am not taking any meds so trying to keep to a good diet but finding it hard as I am absolutely ravenous the whole time. My last blood test (November 2022) showed that I was at 45, whereas previous ones in 2020 and 2021 were 53 and 48, so I do feel that I am borderline. I find I am constantly exhausted despite not doing much. My situation is complicated by the fact that I have severe arthritis in my hip (also less severe elsewhere in my body such as toes and fingers), as well as a degenerating lumbar spine, so I find walking very difficult and hence exercising a real problem. I recently attended a DESMOND course which was helpful and interesting. I'm hoping this group will be able to answer any questions I have.

I live in rural Somerset, UK, with my husband and elderly border collie (who I am unable to walk now - I used to take him for miles every day). I am retired but previously have been a primary teacher, school librarian, supply teacher, private tutor, civil servant, PA, checkout operator, chambermaid and life model - not all at the same time! My interests are: history, particularly the Romans (I'm trying to write a novel); reading (I belong to a lively book club); clothes; cooking; eating out; armchair gardening; geography; current affairs; quiz programmes (I'm in a local quiz team and we often win); keeping in touch with friends. My longest friendship has lasted over 60 years and I regularly meet former schoolfriends from the 1970s for lunches and hours of gossip.

I love the English language and that was my teaching subject, but I also like Latin and can speak a bit of French. I learnt ancient Greek at school and took that O level back in the day, along with Latin, French and all the usuals. My university degree was in English and Education when I was in my 30s, which was challenging as my children were quite young and my husband travelled away from home a lot. My favourite country, apart from home, is Italy - I have visited Rome twice, the Amalfi coast twice, and Assisi, but still on my 'to see' list are Venice, Florence, Verona and the Italian lakes. I have had a Swiss penpal since I was 14 (it's a Whatsapp friendship now!) and have visited Switzerland twice to stay with him and his family in Appenzell, and have also been to Basel. I have also ticked off France, Belgium, Spain, Sweden, Mallorca, Crete, Cyprus, Greece, Turkey and the east and west coasts of the USA. Immediately before the first lockdown we took a lovely cruise to Norway and our next cruise will we hope be across Europe from Amsterdam to the Danube delta - once Ukraine has won against Russia.

All for now! Sassafras01

I'm not sure I'm getting the hang of this..I love camping..been many times but age and diabetes is getting the better of me I've been diabetic for 25yrs..I am Christian so don't believe in piercings but have a short fuse lately which is unChristian but seems to be related to high sugar levels and other illnesses..my doctor merely mentioned the word lifestyle and I got so mad I had to leave lol it's tough sometimes being labeled t2 diabetic..
you know the type that is obese and used to smoke loves eating ooh food food food is almost better than sex especially when your denied it.
Deprivation = Depravity
I love swimming and dancing and fashion singing anything creative hate math and housework although fixing the house can be creative if not such a repetitive chore..you have to psych yourself up and be inventive. I come from a large family relatively poor but always plenty of food old London meat and two veg salad for Sunday tea..obesity now is the new malnutrition due to poverty...when the old malnutrition used to be skinny.
food in my house gives a sense of security knowing your cupboards are full fridge and freezer..then it's always tempting to indulge..I work for an international humanrights charity only part time now my traveling days are drawing down have to make way for the youngsters

Hi everyone. I'm Mark. 49 year old Irishman, living in England. Originally from Dublin, but now living in North Herts.
Just got my Type 2 diagnosis on May 25th, so I'm still reeling a bit, but determined to approach it positively.

Married - with 2 teenage daughters, so life is very calm and serene at home! Our 3 cats are pretty chill though.
Big fan of most sports, particularly football (Spurs) & rugby (Leinster). Love cinema, live music, and cooking.

I work for a small charity as a volunteer manager, which has been my area of expertise for some time now.

Really hoping to use this diagnosis as an opportunity to lose weight, get healthy and maybe reverse the condition.

Hello Mark, and welcome!

Yes, many people take a diagnosis of D as the motivation to change what they eat, lose weight, cut out smoking, booze, junk food, do more exercise, and all the rest of the healthy stuff we hear about .........
And find they actually like that, I hope you will do the same
