i think the standard of care has been so poor for such a life altering condition and one that can be detrimental if not heavily supported by our healthcare teamsI’m in Northampton to, been put on tablets about seven weeks ago. And not much else when it comes to support to be honest
as a fellow Dubliner, i wish you the every best in achieving your goalsHi everyone. I'm Mark. 49 year old Irishman, living in England. Originally from Dublin, but now living in North Herts.
Just got my Type 2 diagnosis on May 25th, so I'm still reeling a bit, but determined to approach it positively.
Married - with 2 teenage daughters, so life is very calm and serene at home! Our 3 cats are pretty chill though.
Big fan of most sports, particularly football (Spurs) & rugby (Leinster). Love cinema, live music, and cooking.
I work for a small charity as a volunteer manager, which has been my area of expertise for some time now.
Really hoping to use this diagnosis as an opportunity to lose weight, get healthy and maybe reverse the condition.

Hello, and welcome, @NageshraoHi I am new here. Diagnosed with Type 2 DM 13 years ago after sudden onset of Bells palsy, which is when they found I was diabetic; on Metformin, Diglutide, Dapagliflozin. HbA1c was intitially improving but over last two years it is getting worse and latest value is around 69 mmol/mol. Three days ago, I developed binocular horizontal diplopia. MRI was normal. Now on eye patch and will be getting prism glasses on Mon/Tue. I do love my Whisky and find being on a diet difficult. But now, I am determined to take the bull by the horns and to this end, I have ordered a Dexcom 10, because it will be motivational for me to stick to a diet. Anybody here with experience of Dexcom 10? I am going to abandon all booze; maybe just the odd glass of wine and cut off all sugary stuff. I do exercise regularly; play golf almost whole day and monitor my stress and sleep using Whoop device. Any advice would be much appreciated. Oh! I am 64 years old; retired five years ago.
https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html should help some with what to eat, while you're getting your feet back under you. Get your blood sugars back into the normal range, get started on vitamin b12 to help your nerve endings, and hopefully the neuropathy (the tingling) will subside in time. If you have a hard time ignoring the biscuits, try distracting yourself with pork scratchings, cheeses, walnuts and nice cold cuts... If you're munching on something, it's easier to avoid the cookies until you're used to it.Hello,
Well, I had tingly toes and wondered what it was although had a suspicion.
GP took bloods then rang back a few days later to tell me my diabetes count (?) was around 190 and my cholesterol was 7.9. He sounded very serious and freaked me out enough for me to start shaking a bit. Didn't tell me 1 or 2 just asked for more bloods and a face to face appointment this Friday.
I'm 53, about a stone or two overweight and little exercise. Family history is a bit rubbish, dad died of heart attack at 52, mum at mid 70s. I guess I'll know more on Friday but a bit scared, bit confused and gutted my food and drink intake will be changing radically. And still got that stupid toe feeling lol and some shooting pains in feet and lower legs.
It's all very new and scary at the moment so I'm here to learn wth I'm doing and how to cope and what I can and can't have to eat and drink.
So hard ignoring the biscuit barrell
Thank you.should help some with what to eat, while you're getting your feet back under you. My name is Ruth. I'm not IT savvy enough to copy all the questions and answer them!
I have been on the edge of diabetes for a few yrs and fell off the cliff/was diagnosed T2 about a year ago.
My husband had diabetes and through bad management (his own & medics) developed major complications inc neuropahty, amputation of toes and other leg below knee, retinopathy , kidney problems etc etc. Went to meet his maker 6yrs ago.
You'd think I would have heeded the warnings, but ............. any way here I am having just found this forum.
I'm wanting to follow the Newcastle diet or similar but having trouble persuading the medics who put me straight on to metformin even though I was only just over the cut off point when first diagnosed. Also they are pushing me VERY hard to take statins, but I'm refusing. (Cholesterol 5.6 but bad ratio of "good/bad").
I'm a creative person, love painting, crafts, singing etc. None of which are particularly physical, so I'm trying to up my exercise.
I'm a Christian, ( faith filled NOT religeous) and I try to live my life according to God's rules for living.
I enjoy life as much as I can and want to do so as long as possible!

France has a great range of food, but it is very heavy on sugar (think of all those bakeries with those amazing displays of cakes!), and being in Normandy, everything has butter and/or cream added to it! I have a huge amount to learn, and yes, healthy-for-diabetics is exactly what I need. Thank you so much!I'm sure your diet was healthy (you are in France after all!) but sadly "healthy" for non-diabetics isn't the same as "healthy" for diabetics. I was in the same situation. But I changed to healthy-for-diabetics and all improved dramatically. May well be the same for you - it has been for many of us here, though some need extra help from medication, which is nothing to worry about - we are what we are.
Have a good read around and come back with any questions. No question is stupid, no question is irrelevant, and we love to help.
What about starting a new thread with your questions on food?
