Hello everyone - lovely to meet you all. Here is my introduction based on some of the suggested questions.

You can call me Mim. I'm a 70-something female (retired) from Australia. I'm not religious and currently don't have any pets, no tattoos. (I do have pierced ear lobes.)

I listen to jazz and classical more than popular music. Microsoft not Apple. Canon not Nikon.

I've visited various countries, holidaying or working - US and Canada, Western Europe incl UK and Eire, Russia, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Japan, Hong Kong. Some places I stayed longer than others (weeks to months vs days).

That's about enough I think :)

My name is Doug. I’m 74 years old and retired. I retired from the U.S. Navy in 1988. I love rock music and don’t care for country music unless I’m drinking whiskey. We’ve had toy poodles for 25 years and now our first Miniature poodle. She is hell on wheels, highly active. I live in the country, surrounded by peanut and cotton fields. I drive a black on black gmc Sierra. Gotta have a truck out here.

Welcome back. :)
Wow, your last post before today was in 2015, this may be a record for a once active member disappearing and coming back!
Two children, a wife, and being a veterinary surgeon sounds pretty cool to me, and all good reasons to be absent.

Checking out of curiousity also led me to this mildly hilarious thread in General Chat, thanks for the 9 years belated laugh! https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/paint-on-my-hamster.72808/

Hello Wullie, and welcome,

I'm very, very sorry about your wife, (being rather familiar with grief myself), but it sounds like there are many folks around you you can still lean on. Good, because having folks that are supportive and loving, really does help. What also helps with diabetes? Walking! Just like gardening. Anything you can do for a while, without it being overly straining, can aid in keeping blood sugars in check. But yes, the most important bit is diet... Try and forget everything you've ever been told about it, and get ready for a load of information that seems absolutely contrary to anything resembling healthy eating. ;) https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html should help you get started, if you like. Of course, there are medications you could try, but since you brought a diet up.... It's a good place to start.

You don't have to get everything right immediately, so take your time to learn, and test what works for you and what doesn't. And if you have questions, throw them out there. This is an amazin gplace, and there's always someone around with answers that might fit your situation.

Hang in there eh. You can do this.

Hi, I have just been diagnosed with type 2. and slightly elevated cholesterol.
I have a family history of type 2 and knew I was putting myself at risk being overweight. I have to treat this as a final wake up call. Feeling angry with myself and stupid for not avoiding this.

hi im angela diagnosed a while ago now type 2
would like to chat with people that have hypers
Hi Angela,

I saw you posted a question on your profile. It won't get much traction there, it's better to post any inquiries in a post on the forum itself.

What meat to eat? Any, really, if it's not overly processed with a lot of additives in. Often when meat's bulked up with starches or sugars, it'll make your blood sugars spike. You're on insulin though, so I'm not entirely sure how to advise you. Beef, pork, poultry, mutton, fish etc on their own won't spike you, it's coatings and additives that might. Do you follow a certain diet, are you trying to come off insulin? If you're on a fixed dose, changing to a lower carb diet may result in hypo's, so do test a lot and be careful, eh.

Anyway, welcome to the forum, hope we can be of help,
Jo
