Hi, my name is Linda. That's a lot of questions to ask...

age 68, single by choice, traveller, camper, RVer - I think you call them by a different name. Canadian. Attending university for the joy of learning. Working on my 3rd year.

I am hoping someone can answer my question.

Details first: I am pre-diabetic, which so far I've managed to not actually be called diabetic by my doctor - don't use sugar or eat sugary stuff before tests. I know that I don't use sugars well just by my reactions to them. So I am careful.

My question relates to the problem I have with gluten: I am not celiac but just sensitive to gluten. Now I have "heard" this is predominantly a North American problem because of the hybrid wheat we grow here.

Does anyone know if I will have a problem eating breads in Amsterdam? I will be travelling there mid month and this is a concern. Eating gluten causes me some problems to put it mildly.

If anyone out there has an answer or a lead to an answer, I would be forever grateful.

Linda

Hi,
My name is Kathy. I was just diagnosed today. I have been feeling pretty sick lately and went to the ER. The Dr did a CT scan which showed a lovely little growth on my were adrenal gland. He called it a cancer. Gave me pain meds and antibiotics for broncitis\ pneumonia and sent me home confused and scared. I went to my Dr. Who told me it was benign, but looks like it is causing Cushions dieses. One of the symptoms of Cushing's is diabetes. So he tested and guess what? Yup, I have diabetes. I am so scared, confused and stressed. I am missing work, afraid if I can't get this under control my kids(5 kids)won't have a mom, my grand babies( I have 2 Grandsons) will grow up with out a Grandma. So now, I sit here not able to sleep and want to tell someone. To have someone to talk to. But also don't want to say anything and have everyone worried..

Hi I am Gina
Before I started treatment for diabetes I was borderline for diabetes now I am on medication my blood sugar levels have gone really high is this normal
I never got that chance. I went seriously into the illness and have been on insulin now for 11 years. If you are not on insulin then I prey you stay off it indefinitely. Look after yourself and enjoy this life. Don't be afraid, if you have doubts then get on top of them. Your life - your rules!

Hi - recently diagnosed type 2. Been on metformin for a month. Just had first visit with surgerys practice nurse who is apparantly a diabetic expert. I found it odd that she didnt seem to be too bothered about my daily double vision episodes, lost sensation in two toes on my left foot, chronic night sweats and chronic muscle fatigue. She has just upped my metformin to 850 twice a day. She also advised against testing my blood sugar levels on a regular basis and said that I should only rely on their blood test every 3 months. Is this normal? No advice on diet or anything. So glad I found this place to ask questions and get answers, rather than a shrug of the shoulders. She did give me a card with details of a local group I can attend - like AA or some kind of addiction council clinic. I just want to know whether I should go somewhere else and pay to be tested privately etc and to see if there is any lasting damage being done to my nerves or eyesight. I would rather have sight and mobility than blind, imobile and a succesful lawsuit against the practice.
