Sorry but I haven't a clue as to what I am supposed to do to introduce myself. I am sixty five years old and I am very computer illiterate in certain areas and have never used a site such as this before so I haven't a clue if anyone will be able to read this message or not. Or indeed if I am approaching things correctly. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes some years ago (October 2012 might have been the time) but have remained in blissful ignorance about the seriousness of the condition up to a few weeks ago when I was talking to a newly introduced family member. She was quite horrified about my casual approach to the whole thing. Back in the early days of my condition I went to the first part of a two part introduction to diabetes but fell asleep halfway through the talk and never went back.

Back in June ( my most recent test) my HbA1c level reading was 81 up from 59 in July last year. But I still didn't think there was much wrong even then. I had stopped taking Metformin last September as I didn't think (in my ignorance) it was doing much good. I am now back on it and have also been taking my blood sugar levels with a little machine she gave me.

I am due to go back and see the diabetic nurse next Monday as I have now asked for three monthly appointments again at the instance of my lady relative. Since meeting her I have changed my eating habits. I am now on a low carb diet.

Hi Matt, Welcome to the type 1 club you didn't want to join! Feel free to problem solve/ven/celebrate here.
I've had diabetes for ages now and reckon it has made me stronger mentally at least plus I have had to pay a hell of a lot more attention to keeping myself fit so right now and with all the good tech that's around to help you can certainly get on with your life plans IMO.

I have been on insulin for over 60 years and on a pump for the last four. Pump therapy is definitely life changing. Diabetic control is down to common sense - be prepared to bend the rules occasionally but not too often, as time goes on you will learn what works for you and what doesn't. Diabetes didn't significantly affect my working life. I took redundancy (from Cadburys) in 2012 and took some infill jobs until 2014 when I was 65 and got my state pension. Don't let diabetes get you down its manageable and getting easier with each advance in treatment. Cheers

Hi all
Had type 2 diabetes for 2 years and have always struggled with high levels even tho im on quite a few tablets...quit smoking 5 weeks ago and omg what a massive improvement
 
I am 56 and am doing Slimming World to lose weight. I am type 1 diabetic. Love animals, have a beautiful cat and she is called Izzy. We share a flat together. Not married and dont have children cos of diabetes complications. I am happy and live a peaceful life. Love chant music and dub music. Hobbies are doing photography and drawing but because of poor sight have had to adapt how I do these hobbies so I can still do them. Love cafes and meeting friends in them. Love going to see live music locally and seeing local art exhibitions. My sight is very poor because of diabetes but I try to adapt. The last art show I saw was really bright colours so I felt the emotions of the paintings more than maybe others who mainly relied on their vision.

Hi, my name is Ugo. got diagnosed with a possible T1 diabetes yesterday. Been placed on insulin for 5 days penfing when the blood results are in. Any help will do.

Hi, my name is Dela. I've not been officially diagnosed, but given my blood meter readings I'm atleast pre-diabetic if not diabetic (Type 2 I'd guess), and I'm already cutting down on carbs, have lost a lot of weight and want to control this early.

Hi , I am Alan. I am a 71 one year old man with type 2 diabetes in Rochdale England. My Hb1ac is now 36 which has come down from59. By diet and losing 10 stone. My doctor says I am in remission but it could come back at any time. I find doctors are doommongers

Well done on your achievements, however your Dr is not a doommonger, you have to keep your healthy lifestyle going or your diabetes will come back!
