My name is Sukriti Mallick, I am 85 years of age. Retired Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. We live in Monmouth.
I like reading. My favourite subjects are History, Science, Philosophy, Politics and Literature.
I hate TV.
Love playing a few holes of golf, gardening and walking.
While walking I like taking pictures of wild flowers, fresh leaves, autumn colours and trees.

Hi. I’m a 74 year old lady with Type 2 diabetes. I was diagnosed in 2013 a year after my mum died. She had Type 2 in old age and my grandmother did too. I got ill after looking after mum and was told when diagnosed that I had been diabetic for a long time. I live with my husband and two dogs in Bedfordshire and have two daughters and two baby grandsons who live away from us in different parts of the country. I love travel and have sewing as a hobby. Cruising is my favourite thing to do. I know when I need to eat as I get a headache then I get angry. I need to loose weight as I have osteoarthritis and have had a knee replacement now the other knee is painful. I take tablets for diabetes.

I can imagine why you're scared and being diagnosed with any medical condition when we're younger than the norm is hard. I'm a new member and I'd say google specific questions in this forum to find a wealth of answers. Reducing carbs seems to help many. From an alternative health perspective, do try natural, live yoghurt on a tampon, as that used to really help me when I got thrush. Calms it all down. (For me, it was too much sugar, stress and alcohol.) I quit drinking almost 8 years ago which has really helped my stress.
Like any medical condition, the sooner we accept our diagnosis, the easier it is to get help. You've done the right thing by joining this forum!

My blood sugar has always been normal, but 3 years ago, I was advised to fast before doing a blood sugar test. I didn't when I had the latest one (early March) and have been diagnosed prediabetic at 42 mmol. My aim is to get the readings to normal within 3 months. Do the monitors work, and should I invest in one? Tried to get the Libre 2 14 day free system, but not eligible (perhaps I discounted myself by clicking 'no emails'!!)
And which sites/books do you recommend for carb counts please?

Hello and welcome, @Annette54
Prediabetes with HbA1c 42 is only just over the margin from non-diabetes levels, so you should , with a few tweaks to diet be able to achieve remission.
Blood glucose monitors are certainly worth having and using.

I am Type 2, diagnosed 2004. I take loads of tablets, I'm on Insulin and I've recently started Ozempic. I believe my diabetes is hereditary as my father had it. I wish I didn't have it. It does make life difficult at times and my overriding wish is that my son doesn't develop it.
