Since I was diagnosed I have hoped I would not have to take any meds at all and the thought of taking insulin is scary. It took me months to accept taking Metformin but gave in when my sugar levels began to rise. It made me feel nauseous for weeks.

An ancient chocolate Burmese cat called Poppy who survives by dint of having a really nervous personality which means that she does not risk anything, a huge, slobbery, hairy German Pointer dog called Bracken who is a gentle giant and around 180,000 Buckfast bees currently busy making honey in the back garden

Love watching sport but the most athletic thing I do is a quick ride to the shops and back on my sit-up-and-beg bike, or inspired by events at the Olympics and Commonwealth Games a faster than normal yomp across the fields with my dog.

Would love to say no, but am afraid that rampant high blood sugar levels left me somewhat testy to say the least - am on a much calmer level now I am pleased to say

NO - did you see how old I am? I still think about Hepatitis and Aids when I hear the buzz of the needles in the local tattoo parlour

Don't really have one although my kids would say Opera!

The only thing I regularly watch at the moment is Big Brother so I can get some kind of conversation started with my 17 year old.

No and am carrying huge debts from fighting to get custody of my children and paying my demented mother's gambling bills!

Yes I am the lowest of the low at Horsham Post office and I have never felt so appreciated!

I have a psychology degree and a journalism diploma and I guess you could say that I have studied the nation's health quite a bit during my time as editor of the BBC's online health news pages

I am very good at finding out stuff for other people

I used to hate my inability to do exercise and stop gaining weight but now I understand that it's because I had hypothyroidism which probably started 17 years ago when my daughter was born so I am learning to forgive myself.

I have done Freelance Journalism but never worked at it and I know journalism is a tough gig and the weak willed do not make it, congratz you have done well.

I'm F/55 - from Chicago, IL USA - my BF (M/57) is a diabetic and I wanted to learn some coping techniques when he gets angry due to low blood sugar...
I'm deeply religious - he is not,,,
No one in my family has diabetes - so this is my first time dealing at such a personal level. I'm having a heard time discerning between low blood sugar anger and straight up abuse... Any suggestions?
He is a great guy - I have known him 30 yrs - but only in a relationship for a few months - he was diagnosed 10 yrs ago (I lost touch with him prior to this) - Normally he is hilarious and sweet - but when his blood sugar is low - he is angry and mean-spirited (picking fights and threatening to leave me) - It's very hurtful - in my intelligent mind - I know this is low blood sugar - but it's very hard to be exposed to this.
Any suggestions on how to NOT take this so personally?

Hi LLSmith,

It is very hard when someone's behaviour changes in that way - believe me I had plenty of experience of that with my demented mother. I guess the best thing would be for you to talk to your friend and check that he is aware that he does this? and that it is linked to low blood sugar and then discuss how he can get better control of his sugar levels in future.

I certainly had to apologise to my kids for snapping at them when I was an undiagnosed diabetic.
