Just been diagnosed as went for an ultrasound thinking I had gallstones, so much pain. No gallstones but fatty liver. Is this normal, more painful when sitting as diaphragm pressing on it.Is it normal to suffer pain with fatty liver?

I used to have dreadful pains trying to bend down to get to the lower shelves or to pick up anything from the floor - my middle has shrunk considerably in the last years, and is so much softer - it used to be rigid, and I have had to renew my clothes several times as I have reduced a couple of sizes.

That was the reason I went to the gp in the first place; pain in the liver area. I had rather severe non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and when trying to find the cause for that, diabetes type 2 came to light.

I was told there was no cure nor treatment, it'd become cirrhosis, and it'd eventually kill me. Currently, the only way to see I ever had it, is to do an ultrasound, as my liver function has returned to normal. The low carb, high fat diet I started to get my blood sugars under control, also tackled the fatty liver disease, besides my morbid obesity and high cholesterol.

So, yes, it can hurt awfully. But it can be fixed with a change in diet, and you could feel relief in weeks. Here, have some hope for Christmas; https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/blog-entry/the-nutritional-thingy.2330/

You're going to be okay.

I was diagnosed with NAFL, about fifteen years ago, and I keep getting mixed results from my blood panel results on my liver function tests
It wasn't until I found that all the foods that were recommended by doctors, dieticians, nurses were responsible for my symptoms.
A controlled dietary intake will relieve the pain, the symptoms and improve your liver function and hopefully reverse the NAFL..
Drink more water, about two litres a day, this will help flush out the toxins.
And improve your liver function tests.

It is very common and nothing to do with alcohol unless you are a big boozer? Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease is part of the metabolic syndrome of which type 2 diabetes is another facet as is 'beer belly '(in fact nafld) , high blood pressure and problems with your blood fats (high triglycerides and low hdl).
If you eat more carbohydrates that you can individually tolerate the liver has to turn them into fat and for some people this fat can't fit into your own fat cells anymore. It is a slowed down version of what the French do to their geese to produce 'foie gras' (literally fatty liver).
The good news is that it is simply to shrink that liver by fasting or by cutting carbs i.e you force the body to use up the fat supplies in the liver. This is what bariatric surgeons get their patients to do to make their gastric surgery easier.
It is simple and will also help your blood sugars go down but not easy if you've been eating a higher carb diet (main meals and snacks based upon bread, rice, pasta, cereals and sugary foods) but there's plenty of good ideas on this forum for ways to reverse your health problems without needing medications (these tend to treat symptoms but not the underlying cause which is your diet).

They found that I had NAFLD when I was in for pancreatitis, I was eating a very high carb diet even when eating "healthy" on slimming world/weight watchers. I'm not a big drinker at all, alcohol gives me really bad tachycardia. I'm still getting pain in my liver area but I'm only a few weeks into low carb so that's to be expected, will take time to notice a significant change.
