I had a partial success with the GP 'diabetic specialist' today in that after a several refusals he accepted that I should be allowed to try a reduction in my statin dose (Atorvastatin down from 40mg to 20mg) since my Lipid figures and ratios are good.
At first he said 'Atorvastatin does not cause diabetes' and 'You can't believe what you read on the internet' . But when he looked at my records and found that my first abnormal Blood Glucose result was 4 month after I started the Statin, he was less stubborn about it. I had a Triple Bypass in December 2016 and my first abnormal BG was in April 2017.
I forgot to write down my triglycerides number, but at my last test (before any Low Carb Diet change) Total Cholesterol was 3.6, HDL 1.2 and was LDL 1.9.
I have heard that on LCHF all my Cholesterol numbers may go up- though some say that is only temporary, during the eight loss phase. I have never been actually overweight, just close to it for a few years when I was on a so-called healthy High Carb Low Fat diet.
I now have until my next blood test in late August to get through any perceived bad effects the LCHF diet may have on my Lipids. I have only had the BG Monitor and the Ketone monitoring strips for 4 days, but appear to be showing 'Trace' ketone levels every time I test. I have lost about 5 lbs in the last 4 weeks.
1. Should I continue as I am ?
2. Should I attempt to get further into Ketosys to speed things up?
3. Should I wait until a couple of weeks before the Tests (Hba1c, ALT (whatever that is) Lipid Profile Fasting and Urea& Electrolytes) and then increase my Carbs to ensure that Ketosys isn't temporarily raising my Lipids?
