Hello everyone
I'm new to this forum. I was told by my GP today to look up this website as it holds a mindful of knowledge about everything relating to Diabetes.
I'm trying to reverse my diabetes & whilst I'm still on medication she advised me to follow a low carb diet for the next 3 months & then she would repeat the blood tests. My HbA1c is currently 51.
I'd be most grateful if someone could please guide me on how to start this new dietary plan as I don't know too much about it. Thanking you

Hello @CarBran I am assuming that, as you are so close to the lower edge of diabetes that you are on Metformin - and nothing which would push your glucose levels very low if you were to eat a low carb diet. If you are taking something like Gliclazide then that is a different matter, but eating fewer carbs is usually very effective in getting back to normal numbers.
My personal take on eating to control type 2 is simply not to eat high carb foods, but eat just about everything else.
I avoid seed oils and low fat options but that is about it.
I set a limit of 10% carb content of everyday foods, but I do eat high cocoa content chocolate, but only one square in a day.

Hi CarBran and welcome

I've just replied to another forum user who was asking basically the same question so I've used almost the same words, hope that's OK.

I wish someone had told me right at the beginning to forget everything I thought I knew about healthy eating.

A lot of us on here have had huge success with low carb ways of eating. In my case once I started low carb I got my diabetic blood glucose back to low-normal in four months, and in the four and a half years since I've lost around 35-40kg or 90-100lbs. Not sure exactly because I don't know how heavy I was when I started. No meds ever.

My diet is pretty much all meat and dairy plus some above ground vegetables. That's because I'm aiming for a total daily carb intake around 20g. Meat includes beef, pork, lamb, chicken, fish etc, dairy is cream, butter, that sort of thing, and the veg are cauliflower, green beans, spinach, broccoli, onions, tomatoes etc. As a rule I don't eat carb-heavy foods like bread, cereals, rice, pasta, pastry, anything sweet, beer or potatoes. All of those are high in carb and we tend to have a fair bit of them when they're part of a meal. There are some low-carb substitutes around, and you will probably have to change your shopping habits.

Thing is, you need to find what works for you. You might probably not need to be as extreme as I am.

This forum is a really good resource and I'd advise you to read a round a bit and have a look at the "success stories" section in particular - you'll see how various folks have tackled it.

Best of luck, and ask as many questions as you want.

Hi @CarBran , welcome to the forum.

I second reading @Rachox ' link.
Your thread title asks about daily meal ideas, you might like this thread in the low carb section of the forum where we share what we've eaten, varying from the very culinary to the very simple: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/what-have-you-eaten-today-low-carb-forum.75781/page-3178
