Low carb products shopping recommendations.

Well-Known Member
Hi,
I'm UK bound this week for the first time in ~ 3 years. I've completely forgotten the best shops for low carb stuff.

I recall finding low carb quiche, sugar free Jelly, sugarless (& carbless)sweets , protein bread etc etc. All mouth watering and unobtainable here in Germany , (bar the bread which isn't much to write home about :-) )

I remember Holland and barrett being useful but any recommendations for supermarkets to save me hunting high and low, would be much appreciated :-0

Heya @Wurst I find Morrisons are good for 'crustless' quiches, sugar free jelly, high protein bread, not sure about carbless sweets though as I don't eat these - have a good trip :)

I get Hartleys 10 cal jellies which are less than 1g of carb per jelly from Tesco but I’m sure all large supermarkets sell them and I get HiLo low carb bread from Sainsbury's. I’ve just got some low carb sweets from a company called Carblife from Amazon U.K. but don’t know if that will be an option for you?

Thanks both , my mouth is watering already. You've got loads More low carb stuff in the UK than here :-0

You can buy no sugar chocolate and sweets from Morrisons..I cannot eat any of them because they give me terrible tummy pain and make me run to the loo, so I keep away from them. They do boxes of fruit sweets of different kinds and no sugar whether original butter flavour toffee sweets. I personally cannot eat those either but plenty can.

Taking you closer to home, I find Aldi has interesting lowish carb foods. Their Slim Well range of frozen slimming meals are quite low carb, and they do the spiralised fresh veg punnets, and frozen cauli rice that is microwaveable from frozen in 2 minutes. All at reasonable cost. I find their batch loaf bread to be palatable and sufficiently low GI to not spike me too much. They do coconut oil and their curry jars are also quite low carb compared to other supermarket brands.. Also high cocoa chocolates.

Probably not low enough if you are trying to keto diet, but acceptable for a <100g/day carbers.

Hi Derry60,

Would you please let me know what brand/names they use for their chocolate.

Sainsbury’s and Waitrose do my favourite low carb products and hotel chocolate is my go to for my favourite 100% chocolate buttons

Waitrose livlife bread and
97% pork sausages - available in most other stores too but prefer the Waitrose butcher ones!
Waitrose own Frozen chargrilled vegetables which are great as a basis for lots of meat casseroles and include peppers and courgette

Sainsbury’s - explore cuisine bean pasta products including fettuccine and spaghetti again think available other main supermarket but got on offer here
Blocks of coconut cream in international foods section a slice mixed with hot water good for thickening casseroles and once opened can store in fridge.
Hilo bread is similar to livlife my personal fave is livlife

Aldi coconut oil tubs and olive oil

Sugar free jelly from any of supermarkets often add some cream when mixing to make it into a low carb mousse.

I buy most of my specialist baking ingredients such as coconut flour and erythritol etc from amazon as tends to be easier and cheaper
Hope this helps

Sugar content is very low, but carbs are quite high I have noticed, but if you only have two a day it is doable

Are you self catering whilst you're here? In which case most supermarkets do spiralisd veg etc. I buy Heck sausages, they are low carb.
Have a great trip

Hi - not sure where you are in Germany but was reading an amazing review with pics of a Ketogenic resturant in Berlin...
H&B does handy nut butter sachets and sugar free sweets as you say. I find that many places I eat are happy to sub in a side order of veg instead of a burger bun/chips. I believe there are even places in London that do bulletproof coffee too but yet to find it here in Surrey!
