Ok, so trying again to get these blood sugars down and lose some weight in the process. . Going from your experience/knowledge, what's the best carb range to stick to? I want to be successful, but also need to be realistic. I'm finding myself eating the same things day in, day out... Which I already know I won't be able to stick to long term. The white pasta, bread, potatoes etc have gone, but what carb range worls for you. Type 2 x

Is the only way of knowing through finger prick testing, or is there a rough guide I can use. I've just looked at an online carb counting app, it says I should be on 9 carbs a day?? What's your opinions plz x

the only way you’ll know how many carbs you can cope with is to test. We are all different & tolerate different amount of carbs from different sources. My personal threshold is less than 20g carb a day with about 7g carb or less a meal. My breakfast is usually less carbs than my lunch & dinner.

Here is some basic info for newly diagnosed but it explains when & how to test & what numbers you are looking for

Thank you @lovinglife, I do test but need to do this more regularly to be honest. I've been off/on track so many times now, I'm having to relearn and research everything again. I've been sticking to below 10, some days nine at all, but have people telling me it's too low, and not sustainable long term. . I will get stocked back up with test strips and find my balance. Thank you.

I like to have salad but can't eat it dry and struggling to find a suitable dressing. Tried making my own but it didn't work out. I'm somewhat of a fussy eater and seem to stick to whatever is simple and quick. I think I need to broaden my options but so worried about failing.. again.. X

Do you like mayonnaise on your salads? Or just drizzle with a bit of olive oil.

I make dressings in small jars and shake them, they emulsify better this way & will keep in the fridge for a good few days. Just remember to shake them up before you use.

I make mine up as I go along so no real recipes but if you google low carb salad dressings you’ll get loads, hers a few to get you started. Any salad dressing is also great for dressing veggies too & adding good fats to your diet which you need to keep you satiated if you cut carbs

If you want to start from scratch with your learning then try the DietDoctor website. I found it invaluable when I started low carbing, lots of great recipes, articles & even menu plans to get you started.

Low carbing is a commitment at first until you get into the swing of it, but it soon becomes 2nd nature. Just stick to meat, fish, eggs, above ground veggies, butter, cheese, cream, Greek yogourt, a few nuts & a couple of squares of 70% or above chocolate for a treat if you want to keep it simple

As regards salad dressings I'm a big fan of olive oil (you can use other oils but olive oil tastes the best) plus lemons or vinegar (3 to 1 ratio, add your favourite seasoning and shake). I accidentally got left with a bottle full of balsamic vinegar plus oil dressing at the beginning of December and am only just finishing it now, so it does keep...

Home made mayo is lovely but doesn't keep....

Salad dressing, I use some avocado oil mayonnaise and mix it with some chipotle peppers (canned in adobe) that I’ve liquidized in the blender. Makes a great dip too for chicken fingers, steak bites and meatballs.

Hi again @Donna85

I see from your other thread this morning you are on Gliclizide

Just wanted to caveat that some of the information I posted for you yesterday you will need to be very careful with as I shared my experience & advice because your info said diet only. Like I said in your other thread if you need help with updating this just shout out.

Please be very careful with dropping your carbs too quickly whilst on Gliclizide as it’s a hypo inducing drug. Take your time & do it slowly until you are getting the numbers you are looking for.

@lovinglife thank you very much. I need my profile changing but when I try to edit it, it just doesn't give me any options to change. I am type 2, medicated with gliclazide. I am unable to message admin also for some reason, maybe it's my phone.. But if anyone can help me out to update this, I'd be very grateful. X

Currently I'm loving M&S new olive oil mayo from their Only range.
Or olive oils with or without lemon and or herbs.
Or vinegar.
Or lemon juice.
Or any combination of the above.

And simple and quick can be good. My lunch today was cold chicken amd mayo. Breakfast was scrambled eggs.

Often I just grab cold meats or cheeses. Dinner is some grilled meat or fish with green veg.
Why make life complicated if simple suits?
