Moving from Low Carb to Higher levels

I think it's amazing that you are so in tune with your liver! Whilst I've learned about controlling bg levels and manage that fairly well, I can't yet begin to get my head around all the technicalities relating to my pancreas and liver. Andrew's technical posts leave me dazed! :) at some point I need to make the time to read and think about it.
Thanks for replying. :)

My body is a temple. ;)

I learned how a,liver dump feels when I was getting used to/rid of false hypos.

@Indy51However, I do wonder about high (saturated) fats and the potential decrease in response to insulin.
OTOH, there are experts out there, especially in the field of longevity, who will argue that the less insulin you are exposed to in your lifetime, the better off you'll be metabolically (Dr Ron Rosedale being a case in point). Peter of the Hyperlipid blog writes pretty convincingly on the science of saturated fats. I guess it all boils down to which expert you find the most convincing. If you haven't already run across John Kiefer (the guy who wrote "Carb Nite"), you might find his carb backloading theories interesting. There's a good podcast with him and Robb Wolf about it, but again they're talking about people with normal metabolism, not diabetics (except where the subject of gylcemic load is discussed rather scathingly): http://robbwolf.com/2014/03/25/of-episode-160-kiefer-carb-backloading/

@Indy51 Yes I agree it is all about who and what you believe. Unfortunately all scientists have their preconceptions and agendas and it often takes an earthquake to change their direction of travel. That is why I wrote "wonder" I am not happy to jump either way because I am sceptical of the arguments both for and against and wish to firmly sit on the fence.

you must be one slim lady then. Do you recommend getting one? Some one at work keeps telling me to get one but he is one of those triathlete types
Sorry @Andrew Colvin, I didn't answer your question.

Yes, I like the scale. In particular, I wanted to monitor muscle percentages, to ensure I don't lose muscle bulk, nor that I go psychotic (moi??), should I gain weight, without understanding if I'm gaining muscle or fat. The visceral fat score is useful too, bearing in mind how important that is for us. The BMI, BMR and memory are the frills. It weighs to 0.1kg if you're particular, and I can get on and off several times and always record the same scores (provided it's at the same time).

My OH, whilst he thought it was OTT has input his data, so he now also has last reading comparisons. It has 4 profile memories, plus a guest profile.

Just had a bit of a shock. Pigged out a bit at lunch today:
2 slices of bread with marmite (well one was a thick crust that I toasted and the other bread)
2 ryvitas with peanut butter
chicken
carrots
berries + dates
hazelnuts + peanuts (handful each)
Huge slice of chocolate birthday cake

This is vastly more than I would normally have so I was expecting to see my levels elevated and even having to work them off. What I got was
Pre 4.7, +1.2hrs 7.2, +1.7hrs 7.7 and +2.1 hrs 5.0!

That was like reading a thriller with a twist at the end!

Very pleased for you Andrew. :-)

Respect @Andrew Colvin.

My indulgence this morning wasn't as epic as Andrew's. For breakfast, with friends, at their house, I had:

1 glass chilled Freixenet ( I passed on the OJ to make it Bucks Fizz)
2 Buckwheat pancakes - Tasted very sweet, but my OH said only a trace, so my taste buds are hyper. I preferred last week's waffles to be honest. Crispy Bacon, although I passed on the maple Syrup, which I don't care for anyway.
Tea, made the English way by an American.

My fasting was 3.6. After 1 hour, 4.7, and 2 hours 4.0. Result.

I must pass on the Freixenet if it is to feature on these occasions, as it goes straight to my head, and I fancy a nap!

I havent tried buckwheat. Where the pancakes like pancakes?

They were lovely. Light and fluffy.

There were 6 of us present, and enough batter to have fed 16. This lady doesn't know how to scale a recipe down. She's a wonderful cook, but there is always so much left over.

The dog eats well.:greedy:

I bet she is skinny and eats like a horse too.

Went out to restaurant with birthday daughter
Ate Steak and Chips, Belgian Waffle, Ice Cream. This is a test before my holiday in a month.

One hour reading was 5.9 but the ice cream will slow it all down so will need to see what it is in 30 mins or so

edit
So here is the update: peaked at 7.8

An interesting thing has happened to me. I only rarely got readings in the 4s. I recently started having only 3 tablespoons of plain yoghurt for breakfast. since that first day I have had at least 1 reading in the fours every day. I had a 4.2 tonight before dinner. Cant think of anything else that has changed.

Have you been losing weight or has your waist got smaller? If so it could be that you hit a change point. I noticed changes seem to happen in steps.

Our hostess is slim, but eats erratically. I think that's the kindest way to phrase it.

Where are you going on hols, and what is your food/testing strategy whilst away?

Off to sunny Aberystwyth. Seems I can get away with eating in restaurants with success now and we tend to eat during the day and not evening. Will probably only test fasting and pre-evening meal. I have a month to decide based on how I see my results up to then. Decided to stop testing at lunch times now when I have my sandwich as it is always the same and blood sugars respond the same.

Have a good trip Andrew. And great news about your steady levels - let us know how you get on.
