Moving to New Zealand

Hi All,
I’m relocating to Auckland, New Zealand from London at the middle of August.
I have type 1 diabetes, using Fiasp, Levemir insulins and the Libre sensor.
Would you kindly advise if you have experience about the transition between the two countries.
I assume it should be a straight forward process after registration at a local GP, but would love to hear your advice.

Type 1 - Considering moving to New Zealand

Quite a niche question! However I was wondering if anyone knew of the ins and outs related to getting Type 1 diabetes supplies in New Zealand? As am strong considering a move there. Thanks!

My husband is from NZ and we visit so am in disbelief that they don't have Fiasp or Levemir or funding for CGM such as Libre or Dexcom.

No funding for cgms yet. In theory was going to happen this year but Pharmac have recently delayed the decision. Very likely that all t1s will be covered.

Only basal is lantus atm. It's possible that you might be able to persuade an endo to prescribe other insulins but they'd have to import it from overseas and get special permission.

I eventually got so fed up of lantus that they moved me to a pump, hypo issues are enough to qualify for a pump.

I was already on lantus and humalog before my move (from Australia) so move was very easy for me. I'd suggest bringing at least 3 months of supplies so you have plenty of time to get signed up with a gp. Just make sure you say 3 months when immigration ask how much you've brought, as 3 months is the technical import limit.

All prescriptions are now free in nz.
 
New austerity-prone for the poor Government is in power - so the free prescription thing brought in by the last Government is not part of current regime. Since July 1 you need to fulfill certain requirements not to pay the nominal fee for prescriptions, is my understanding.
