Hi newbie here after any advice or if anyone has experience the same,
I’m type 2 diabetic previously taking gliclazide, metformin ,linagliptin and trulicty on a sugar free diet, I managed to get my HBA1C from 10 down to 8.3 in 12 weeks....then came stress at work, Christmas and Easter and I went on a complete binge yes my own fault my HBA1C in June went to 11 !

I’ve now be placed on levimar currently on 36units am 6 pm _ started on 10 units 4 weeks ago.... as I increase insulin so do my sugar levels all throughout the day starting off at 10.5 and never going below 9 as the insulin increases my levels do too.
Any advice, come off insulin?
Desperately need some help.. currently no sugar or carbs for 4 week So!,,,
Help

I'm sorry you're having a hard time keeping your blood sugars down. I hope this is something you can work out with your diabetes team. Have you noticed that your blood sugar control has improved after your no sugar and carb effort over the last 4four weeks?

Hi hi at the beginning when I was on a small dose of insulin and still taking glicazide yes, but as soon as the insulin has up to 36 units and taken off glicazide I can no longer get levels lower then 10

It sounds like the glicazide was really helping your blood sugar control.
I'm T1DM so the insulin regime is different and I hope your diabetes team sort it out for you. Interestingly enough, I use long-acting as background insulin, to stop ketones building up and to hold a stable line but only 3 units morning and night. I have to use short-acting to reduce my blood sugars back to that line.

Hi do you or anyone else take insulin and glicazide together?
Anyone had the opposite effect when taking insulin? Levels going high or do I need to give it more time

As a type 1, I'm only on insulin. Interestingly, I had a GP's appointment today (about something unrelated to diabetes) though we had a general conversation about my diagnosis as a type 1 diabetic and she said they always refer type 1's to specialists and have nothing to do with their insulin management. But they manage type 2's on insulin. This didn't make any sense to me. Surely they should refer everyone using insulin?

Hi. I must admit the behaviour with your insulin is strange. Gliclazide is not normally prescribed as well as insulin. They both achieve similar objectives by providing more insulin but injected insulin itself is more flexible. Can you let us know what your BMI/weight is? If you are slim then you are possibly not a T2 but a mis-diagnosed late onset T1; mis-diagnosis is common and I'm one of those. If you are actually a late onset T1 (LADA) then most of us would be put on the recommended T1 Basal/Bolus regime e.g. Levemir for 24 hours and possibly NovoRapid for mealtime use. You will need to discuss why the insulin is not helping which is most strange. Late onset T1 can come on slowly and sometimes just Basal is prescribed with Bolus added later as the pancreas degrades. BTW the NHS is daft when it comes to who manages insulin. If you are T1 then most patients are referred to a hospital department and offered courses on manging insulin. If you are a LADA or T2 on insulin you may well be managed by the local surgery and not offered any courses; silly. Fortunately I have an excellent surgery prescribing nurse who manages me and sometimes patients who deal with both the hospital and the surgery can hit conflict between who is in control of prescriptions.
