Hello everyone
Hope everyone is well on here?
Just a quick question for anyone who’s on Ozempic what side effects have you suffered?
I have recently been prescribed 1mg and I am have terrible sickness and diarrhoea.
Wouldn’t be that bad but it’s always in the early hours when I’m ill!!!
If anyone else has suffered like this how did you deal with it? Is there anything I can take to get rid of this?
Thanks
Gareth

I am not an Ozempic User, but people using this drug need to be aware that ther is now a new Class Action lawsuit being mounted due to a higher than expected occurrence of gastroparesis (paralysis of the stomach) that can require urgent hospital treatment. It is a condition that is not mentioned in the patient notes.

I had this problem with semaglutide (can’t remember the other name). Besides not being able to keep food or liquid down, I couldn’t keep my medications down either and ended up with horrendous panic attacks. I’m slightly more susceptible to gastroparesis due to having Ehlers-danlos syndrome… my dr knew I have EDS but doctors rarely know the widespread implications of this.
So yes… Gastroparesis can mean you cannot even digest your medication which would not be helpful for many!

Anything healthy!
I was on this, it was great for my blood sugar brought it down from 119 to 46 and I lost a stone in weight but the side effects I couldn’t cope with. I was randomly vomiting it would usually be when I was at work. I also had a continuous feeling of dread in my stomach. So I’ve stopped taking it and I feel much better but I expect my hba1c will be up again and the weight has already gone on!

Sorry about the weight gain, but that is also an unpublicised side effect of these drugs. I wondered why WeightWatchers had a 2 year plan for everybody on their scrips. It is now coming clear that once on this med you will likely be on it for life, because when you stop the med the weight returns with a vengeance, so the effects and benefits are short lived. At $900 a month wholesale cost of the med from the suppliers, I cannot see medical insurance carrying the can for this for long, and also the NHS and the GP CCG's will also be watching their botton line. we have certainly seen reports of forum members reporting montha and in some cases years of treatment so far, so it is not a quickie fix.

On semaglutide i actually threw up all over myself whilst driving! It’s quite sudden!
So that was the trigger for me to never take it ever again!
The worry would be if it happens while you're asleep. Sounds potentially hazardous.

Spicy food which is too hot. Nasty people who have no idea on your life journey but feel the need to comment and be cruel.
I have just sent the paperwork for Ascend Plus study. Semaglutide in tablet form. I am a ****** for side effects. I am presuming that if I get the placebo I would know straight away. Can't afford any side effects that are drastic, especially if driving. Maybe I shouldn't do it.

Before I decide to take any medication the doctor is offering me I always google Black box warning for….. and see if there is one. Most of the time there isn’t.
Semaglutide (ozempic and Wegovy)
Black Box Warning: RISK OF THYROID C−CELL TUMORS. In rodents, semaglutide causes thyroid C-cell tumors. So patients with a personal or family history need to be aware.

We have (from memory) at least 2 forum members that I have seen reporting a diagnosis of this within a few weeks of starting this drug.

Sorry I can't help. The only problem I have had with Ozempic is getting hold of it. Had to stop taking it back in June due to it being out of stock & it won't be available until the new year at the earliest.

I was prescribed Ozempic in March this year. Within days I had a terrible upset stomach which over the next couple of weeks developed into severe vomiting and nausea and I had to be admitted to hospital. Upon discharge, the vomiting and nausea got worse and I ended up with gastroparesis. I could only keep thin soup and yoghurt down and ended up taking five months off work. My diabetic consultant said it was a severe reaction to the Ozempic injection. I only took two doses of it. I’m still recovering as it affected my stomach and my bowels. I was sick nearly every day for 8 weeks and lost well over 2 stone. The nausea lasted a lot longer. Please be aware that although this drug has probably helped many people, the side effects can be severe.

Sadly the manufacturer is of the opinion that such cases are diabetic gastroparesis, and not caused by the medication.

The jury is still out as I speak
You may be able to join in if it is a Class Action.

My diabetes was only diagnosed in Jan 23 and linked to my steroid medication I was taking for IVF in the previous year not related to lifestyle and my blood sugar is very stable. My consultant thinks I may well be able to reverse my diabetes as it’s so controlled so am very sure the gastroparesis isn’t linked diabetically. He is also sure that my problems stemmed from ozempic as everything started a week after taking the first dose. It’s heartbreaking reading all the accounts and stories from people who have suffered more than I.

If your consultant is sure, of probable causation, then he should have raised a Yellow Card report to log this event as an adverse effect of a medication. In the US these yellow cards are under the control of the FDA who can enforce changes to prescribing info to add warnings etc. There is a similar scheme in UK but its practically invisible to patients as i believe it can only be used by HCP's and medical practitioners. there is a reporting system in Australia too that is patient accessible.

Seems it is now online in UK.

2 weeks ago I received my first injection. I visited my doctor's office in Canada, where they explained to me in detail how to use Ozempiс,

I can already feel that it is starting to have the desired effect. My appetite has decreased significantly, and I feel full faster and for a longer time. In the past, I have been on a roller coaster of diets, experimented with various weight loss programs that led to an initial loss of 22 pounds, but then these pounds came back. I sincerely believe that this Ozempic treatment will help me keep my weight off and prevent it from fluctuating. The Ozempic side effects that annoyed me the most were nausea (I didn't get to vomiting), it was quite frequent, especially in the first hours after the injection, I didn't feel any other side effects.

Here in the UK , I haven't been able to take Ozempic for months as supplies are not available . I know some of this is because its being used as a weight loss drug. Interestingly I did not lose any weight . It did lower my blood sugar levels, not as low as they need to be but reasonable. The side effects were mainly nausea , diarrhoea and stomach ache . Now i am off of it I realised how awful i felt so not sure I want to go back on it but can't get my BG down .

Ozempic became very popular in 2023, especially in the US, and so it was mainly used for weight loss, In the US there are also problems with availability, now they buy from Canadian online pharmacies with delivery to the US.
