Reactive Hypoglycaemia

About 2 hours after I'm back down to my 5s it's the drop you feel so if you only test it a few times you'll know what's shooting your blood up and dropping 6 points in an hour will leave you shaking. Not heard of numbness as a symptom. blood pressure and anxiety have that I think.

Not sure Wendolph I haven't checked I'm short of sticks now but at the Gps tomorrow so I'll get on to that. I'm like Kaz says above though I haven't had a score above 5.7 at all today but I always check after two hours. Just eaten again and my numb cheek has eased. Is this a hypo symptom!

Hopefully Kaz we are just resetting as the others have said and it is the best thing we can do for our bodies.

Everyone of us has different symptoms and it is sometimes hard to distinguish what is a symptom or not.
For instance, I use to get a constant headache behind the eyes but I use to get one when my sinus played up when I had a cold and give me a headache. So what is a headache I'm having at a certain time, it is a symptom or just my sinus?

Has any one read the news bot item on excess insulin in the brain triggering hunger and pleasure centres?

I have read this a few times and I'm wondering and pondering, how this would affect RH ers and the constant hunger pangs when not in control. A symptom that increases when fluctuating hypers and hypos.

I do remember this and the constant urge to eat anything carby!

I would do the link thingy but I'm useless at it!
No I haven't heard this but it makes sense. Definitely junk, quick foods, I want to eat Now! Pastry anything that doesn't need preparing. Luckily this includes berries.

Interesting I get sinus headaches too. I think it was Brun that mentioned she gets numb cheekbones?

I use to get the headaches but not had one for ages.
The last aches and pains was to do with side effects with a statin they tried me on!

Yup. I get numb cheekbones.
It is a cross between a chill dead feeling and as if i have forgotten how to make my face smile.
Oh, and my sense of humour gets amputated, at the same time.
I've been in situations where someone has said something i would find funny at any other time, and i just stare at them with a kind of contemptuous 'We are NOT amused'.

Oh, and ladies, that cool, chill, feeling? I am guessing that you arent eating enough to make up for the carbs. Eat fat. It will relieve that feeling almost immediately.

My go too option is a hot drink like a low carb hot choc, but you could go for anything rich and satisfying. Nut butter, cheese, low carb baked cookies or a mug cake. Even fat bombs.

We had a guy on here used to eat a teasp of coconut oil.
Try it, you will be amazed at how it works.

Thanks Brun I'll try some coconut oil as I keep it in!

I refused the statins Nosher! Not for me especially if it turns out I never actually needed them!

That's a different story!
It was all to do with my family history, as my father and two brothers had heart history, my only living brother has small heart defect that my mother had, so because I was at risk because of my diabetes(!)
So I was given statins to see if my very good cholesterol levels could be better and prevent future heart health problems. But after three weeks and having side effects synonymous with statins, I was taken off them. My doctor admitted it was daft for me to try them as my BP and pulse and all my vitals are very good!:)

Good stuff! I am hoping my guys will agreed the same eventually!

I've had a teaspoon of coconut oil and a small glass of Koko and I am feeling better thanks.

Fingers crossed for a decent night :)

Morning guys!

I'm sure I'm asking some really stupid questions, but I'm very new to this so please bare with me!

How do you all cope with days out? What do you eat? Can you recommend some low carb snacks that can be bought from a supermarket etc? Low carb hot chocolate and baked cookie sound good, but what brand are these? Being out of the house really scared me at the minute as its so hard to get food that isn't based around carbs.

Many thanks x

Morning!
How did last night go? Did you wake up at 5am again?

Here is the hot choc recipe.

Low Carb Hot Choc
Boil kettle.
Add a heaped teasp of good quality cocoa powder to a big mug
Add 1.5 ish heaped teasp of sugar substitute to mug
Make the powders into a paste with a dribble of water (get rid of the lumps)
Add boiling water and stir until smooth
Top up with double cream.
Add caramel, lemon, orange or mint essences, if desired
Enjoy

All quantities adjustable

If you do a google search for 'low carb (insert food name)' you will find MANY MANY recipes out there.

Brilliant thanks Brun, I'm off the the shop later to buy ingredients!

Was it you that said you carry a peanut protein bar with you when out and about? 9 bar or something? Can these be bought in supermarkets?

Last night was ok thanks. I woke at 3am feeling hungry, so had a few nuts as you suggested. Checked my bg and it was 5.3. I then slept Til 6.15 but woke again with my heart racing. I've got my appointment with the consultant tonight to discuss my results so I'm a bit anxious.

I've had 3 omelette muffins for breakfast at 8am and by 9 I'm hungry again grrr! The constant eating is driving me mad at the minute!

Good luck today!

9 bars are available in Asda and Tescos, and probably others. Bt I by them from the 9bar website. You can do a proper check on the carb content. I think the peanut ones are the lowest carb. Don't be put off by the fact that they seem to have sugar (or similar) in.

Most people find that they are actually very slow release, don't cause spikes, and tide you over for a good couple of hours. Worth trying to see if they work for you.

I'll check them out too. Will let you know how it goes later. Thanks again x

Hi guys,
This is great I can work all day diy and I don't have to eat between meals. I can go for a walk two hours after a meal without taking carbs with me!
Now I am running on low insulin use I am wondering how I can get my hba1c down below 45.
The GGT may be a long job but it is going in the right direction.

Bloomin' marvellous.
I am the same about no longer needing to snack all the time - provided I eat enough, and it doesn't spike my bg.

VERY pleased for you. :D

Went to Asda today and got breathless walking round? Is this carb related have had some lunch and feel better now but not walking as much as in Asda

Did you test your BG?
Could it be that you hadn't eaten enough?

The trouble is there are a lot of different reasons for breathlessness.

That's brilliant! How long have you been low carb for? I dream of the day I can do that again. Do you mind me asking what a typical days food is like for you?
