Resistance training

I recently saw a program from a hospital here in Sydney where a 74 year old lady was put on a program of resistant exercises to lower her BG levels as the drugs did not work. She attended three times a week for 18 months and her readings came down into the normal level. Unfortunately they did not say what her diet was as we know you can't out exercise a bad diet.
I'm 79 and joined a gym for the ageing which runs the same programs. I've handled my diabetes by diet and exercise for 6 years, but my exercise has been solely aerobic. my Sept readings were 5.7 ( 39 ) and have been stuck on that for some time and the specialist tells that at my age it will NEVER come down. ( very encouraging ! )
I have just had my 6 months readings and my HbA1c is 5.6 which is at least in the right direction; my cholesterol HDL is 2.5mmol and Trig 0.6mmol and in addition my Blood Pressure in the morning is usually 92/98 over 52/58.
I intend to try and do the full 18 months and my next blood test is in Sept. but was wondering if any other members can from their experience confirm that through resistance exercise they have been able to bring their BG levels into the normal range?

From personal experience, I did resistance exercises 3 x 1 hr per week, plus swimming 5 times a week. The swimming was 1/2 km - 1 km or 20 -40 lengths of a 25 m pool depending on how I felt. There was no difference to my weight or BG but I wasn't low carb then.

NICE guidelines state "The HbA1c target for most people with type 2 diabetes is 48 mmol/mol (or 6.5%)", is there a reason for wanting to be lower by that amount?

Resistance training has definitely worked for me. My fbg is usually 4.5 or below since upping the weights sometimes 3.9. I have tried various food and exercise combinations, which my wife and I are now trying to perfect; I will be reducing my food intake as I am still too full.
