I'm doing quite good I'm proud of myself. Since August when I was told I was type 2 I've lost over 2 stone, stopped smoking. I'm trying real hard to walk for exercise as I suffer with fybromyalgia and have many fears of going out after years of depression.
The biggest problem I have is understanding all the blood sugars results. I will get there eventually. I have found this forum invalluble so far. Thank you Marie

Football. Bad manners.
Exactly the same weight this December as I was Dec 2011. HbA1c was 5.7 instead of 6, but in Dec 2011 I was full of infections and antibiotics, which accounted for the higher reading. BP is down nicely and is now about 122/80.

This year I'm going to stop drinking, lose another 2 stone and aim to join the 4% club, with WhitbyJet and other friends!

Wow that is amazing you must feel so much better for losing the weight, may I ask how.many carbs per day you were eating as I am desperate to lose weight, I am thinking of joining either weight watchers or slimming world, do you have any opinions on either of these as to wether they work ? X]

Nicola I was told that the nhs recomend weight watchers out of all the diets out there. I found weight wa tchers easier than slimming world. The good thing is you can check them all out before you commit. I want to try the low carb way seems good for diabetics. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Just this time last year I came off all prescription drugs for my Type 2 because of the gut related problems from Metformin. The Diabetic specialist did want me to stay on the METFORMIN, but that was the main reason for getting off tablets, so I just took insulin. ( I had been with Lantus for several months already) At this time I had severe muscle pain as the after effects of cholesterol treatments and was unable to check for breast lumps, so was dismayed to be diagnose with early post menopausal breast cancer in May. At the post op discussion I elected to have the more expensive drug - Anastrozole- instead of the newest METFORMIN !!!!!! BUT the research does find that Metformin is suppressing breast and colon cancers so it could have been worth persevering with, But not by me - I'll take my chances as the few tablets of Anastrozole were as wicked as the Statins and have left me with tarsal tunnel syndrome!!!. I Treat my Cholesterol and blood pressure with herbals an as much exercise as possible, and hope to keep out of surgeries except for reviews this year. The cancer can come back early if it wants to invade as I will still be young enough to cope with the surgery. Apart from the feet I am pain free and in charge of my diabetes, It does not control me any more!!

I'm quite happy with 2012. I've lost about 2 stone, gone from size 20 to size 14. Go to the gym twice a week for an hour followed by a quick swim so feeling pretty OK. Apart from the gallbladder op pencilled in for Feb I'm feeling great. Will I get down to a size 12? Don't know but I'm not going to stress over it. If I can lose a bit more so much the better. I've got my six monthly review next week, so fingers crossed I've not done too much damage over christmas with the odd mince pie and the odd bit of (very small) cake, but now that's over with I can resist the temptation. Happy healthy 2013 to you all  Chris xx

New year, yep, but any progress?
Had been told last July that I had to move up from Metformin alone to Met plus.... and that I would be able to start self testing. Asked if I could self test and alter my diet, before adding further drugs. The DN agreed, made an appointment for me to be given the kit, shown how to use etc. Then when I turned up for that appointment (different nurse), I was told that I couldn't self test, instead it was the extra drugs
As this contradicted what I had been told, I was rather annoyed. This DN did decide to redo bloods though, so by December I was told the results were worse hbalc now 10.7 - I again challenged the self test idea and was told firmly that the answer was no - the nurse even got the flow chart out that showed I couldn't - until I pointed out that she wasn't reading it correctly and I was two scales higher than she claimed. So, then she admitted I was allowed, but we agreed to let a doctor review my case. That was today

The doc reckoned the nurses were the best to deal with my case (slope shouldered?) until I asked him what they would do about my liver problems and depression - the answer? They would refer me to him. Why will no one take responsibility?

He backed up the no self testing and stated additional drugs - I showed him 'their' flowchart and then he agreed - self testing is appropriate. So, now were about 7 months further on, my results have got worse and again, I now have to get an appointment for the self test - why are they so keen to throw drugs down your throat and deny you the tools to help you manage your condition? Is this down to kick backs from the drugs companies?
Anyway, happy new year to all diabetes.co.uk members

Keeps the money flowing for the drug companies and we all know that drug companies give the doctors surgery lots of freebies. I have severe depression and was put on efexor generic name venlafaxine. When they changed it for a cheaper generic brand I began to suffer brain zaps. This made me very ill and became suicidal. I went back tosuffermy gp and told him and he decided to put me back on efexor. All was well again till the nhs started the cutbacks. Yet again I was put on a cheaper generic brand. When I argued with my gp he said that efexor was the most expensive and the brand I was given cost pennies. Apparently the nhs would not pay him to let me have efexor. So stuff the fact I might relapse and harm myself I had to make do with medication that is inferior and does not do the job it's supposed to.
I have had so many different brands I get confused, but the best is the **** they have me on now venlafaxine tablets instead of slow release capsules. I've taken them as per instruction and guess what they re appear undigested. Guess who is going in to see their gp all guns blazing. I hate the fact that they are giving me sub standard medicine that could initially cost me my life because the nhs will not pay my gp. So now you know why the suicide rate is on the increase for vulnerable people. Makes you think.

Hi i've been switched onto Humulin M3 recently & i'm struggling to get my BS levels consistent in fact theyre all over the place. Had a major prob on 2nd day of usage when BS went from 10.6 to 4.1 inside 70mins!!!! Thanks to my Cocker Spaniel, who woke me up by licking my face, I was able to get them up to 8 reasonably quickly. This has understandsbly unnerved me somewhat as ive Never even been close to a hypo before. Pleease has Anyone got any suggestions based on Experience rather than totally useless comments from medical proffession ive recieved such as "well this sometimes happens" !!!!!!! When I said "Sorry but that wasnt very helpfull" I was asked "what did you expect me to say" I replied " well as you're the professional I expected some help and advice" & walked out!!!!

Just hafta brag a bit.
Diagnosed Sept. 15, 2012 with Type II.
Had first 3 month (actually almost 4) check-up yesterday.
A1C was down from 12 to 7.1.
Lost 21 pounds.
Don't let me get the big head here.
Is this a normal rate of progress for 'beginning' diabetics,
or am I a 'slow learner'?
