So you haven't tried it while following a low carb way of eating?
The reason I ask it that when I was eating carbage the thought of missing a meal for an hour would have sent me into a meltdown. Since embracing LCHF/Keto I find it easy to go without food for extended periods. It has been a quite unexpected benefit to running on fat.
So situations change as do people ..you often complain about non suitable food being available at the tournaments so to some who are fairly experienced at this an extended fast for a few hours would seem to be a very sensible suggestion until you can get to some more suitable fare.
No I haven't - but here's the thing... I 'complain' about the fact that at a tournament, the only meal I have control over is breakfast. A lot depends on where the tournament is, where I am staying, when I arrive, what the facilities are in the AirBnB. I don't fly with stocks of food and tupperware because it is simply not practical. I don't get back to the digs until the small hours of the morning, wake early to cut audio and video for podcasts to get them out before start of play... I arrive at the media centre early to work in peace and quiet before the rest of the rabble arrive (photogs, I am looking at YOU)!
'Missing meals' happens all the time - if you have put in for a lot of interviews or press conferences then you HAVE to be around for them, you can't just wander off for a bit of a munch because you feel peckish. The issue is what is available. Not every tournament has great options. Indian Wells, for example gives us just $17 on our credentials and most of us have to buy from the same concessions as the great unwashed. The good stuff, salads, grilled chicken, fish... wipes out your card in one go. Unsurprisingly... you can have a hotdog and deep fried rubbish and survive for a day! My plan for this now is a lowish carb ceral bar (I found I relied on these A LOT in Singapore - I was rarely in bed before 3am, the high school over the road played Colonel Bogey at 7:45 to muster the students so I was a zombie after 2 days...!) and also cup soups - talking maybe 10g of carbs for both.
I found when I tried it before (it was 5:2) that because of the freelance and thus variable nature of work, it left me feeling it was hard to concentrate and the quality of my planning and thinking was all over the place... it just was not worth it. I had already lost weight with MFP back in its old fashioned calorie counting and exercise days, so I have just changed my settings a little to carb count more in conjunction with my scans.
With respect - I am not in a position to give it a try again. I appreciate your trying to help, please respect the fact I would rather manage my diet and exercise my way when I am at home, in between shift work to earn a crust, and that I am trying to find solutions that work for me when I am away. I am not going to consider IF again. Ever. End of story.
