This is rather a silly question but does anyone know why mushy peas are quite high carb? It's a pity as hubby loves mushy peas but we tend to avoid them.
Half a can contains 16g and peas themselves contain around 15g per 100g. That's not especially high? This is rather a silly question but does anyone know why mushy peas are quite high carb? It's a pity as hubby loves mushy peas but we tend to avoid them.
Wow, that's not very good DAFNE advice. A lot of veg are carby in particular most root veg such as carrots, swede, turnips and so on when cooked. All beans and pulses etc are carby although many are low-GI and provide good fibre. He was told on Dafne course he didn't need insulin for Vegtables only baked beans, mushy peas and parsnips. Think we need to look into this.

I was diagnosed 4 weeks ago with type 1 and my dietician told me not to carb count any veg! Maybe I need to also look into this furtherWow, that's not very good DAFNE advice. I was given the same advice on diagnosis, but it was soon proven false.......I have to bolus for all carbs including veg and salad. If you're not counting them and your sugars are good afterwards then there's no worries.I was diagnosed 4 weeks ago with type 1 and my dietician told me not to carb count any veg! Thank you but mushy peas aren't very important lol!!There are no silly questions, everyone on the forum is here to help.
We've never tried it, we are on a very tight budget at the moment as hubby isn't at work as he's too poorly.Celeriac instead of mash?
We have Carbs and Cals, must admit that we got to the stage where I could look at a meal and know how much insulin was needed as we tended to have the same meals over a month, but since his health has deteriorated, certain foods upset his stomach and now he is limited to soft food only it is difficult to know what to feed himTwo tips, get carbs and cals as that gives you the carb content of a lot of everyday foods, you can either buy the book or download it on your smart phone, or just read the nutrition content on the can or packet. Sadly in contradiction to DAFNE advice there really aren't any 'free foods' so you do have to watch anything that passes your lips !
