Backstory: Diagnosed end of November 2014 with A1C= 11%
Followed ADA guidelines until March 2015, when I found this website.
Adopted the LCHF lifestyle in April 2015.
Weight lost since November = 43 lbs

And the results...<drumroll> :D

A1C= 5.6%
Cholesterol (norm <200) = 112 mg/dl
Triglycerides (norm <150) = 55 mg/dl
HDL = (norm >39) = 44 mg/dl
LDL Calculated (norm <100) = 57 mg/dl
Non HDL Chol (LDL = VLDL) (norm <130) = 68
Chol/HDL Ratio (norm <4.4) = 2.5

I am thrilled...and even a little teary-eyed.

My next goals are:
1) Reduce my A1C even more
2) Increase my HDL

Thank you to all of you who have pointed me in the right direction, answered my endless questions, and even listened to me whine a little about my slow progress. I am so thankful for your patience and expertise.

Well done, vintageutopia. I'm guessing the ADA guidelines helped you lose some weight or did you lose it all since April? Whatever, you deserve to feel very proud of yourself.

You are correct. The weight loss started at the end of November. My weight loss has slowed with LCHF, but my body composition is changing, even when my weight slowly falls away.

Very well done; shame we all waste months following the NHS guidelines and continue eating carbs and cutting fat when all the latest (well many years) research suggests this is totally the wrong thing to do!!!

It is hard.. but it does put a smile on your face... my hba1c was 9.2 % in November and now it's 7.6 % and I'm having low carbs just for lunch and cut down on milk in my porridge for breakfast, and it is really making a difference..
