So.....about bulletproof coffee?

I've read a lot of people doing keto like to drink bulletproof coffee. This means coffee with cream, butter and maybe MCT oil. My question is if you add a couple of packets of artificial sweeteners (like say Splenda), how does that change anything? The artificial sweeteners have no carbs.

I just need a little something to make my coffee sweeter. Thoughts.

I doubt the sweeteners would make any difference. It's just another way to get fat into the body. BUT Splenda does have some carbs in it, unlike stevia, erythritol and the like. Also, some people get a bg spike from sweeteners anyway so you are best to exclude them if you are one of those people.

It's by no means essential to have butter and MCT oil in your coffee I just have cream in mine.

I tried it a couple of times with butter but didn't like it so don't bother any more.

Why do you think you need it?

I'd also suggest trying to wean yourself off "sweet" altogether. Makes like much easier and cravings less.

I put cream in my coffee. I also use sweetener most of the time, which has no impact on my BG. I've not tried butter in coffee (but I've not tried lots of things) and don't intend to.

Only way for you to know for sure is to try it and fingerprick test to see what happens. You might not like it (the butter in coffee, not fingerpricking), and if so the question of what it might do to your BG goes away.

Edited for clarity

As @sunspots warns, sweeteners are a bit of a mine field, especially those little packets offered in cafés. They can be half sugar, half sweetener. (Sugar is very cheap and many sweeteners are expensive.) I recommend carrying old fashioned saccharine tablets. They are tiny, cheap, come in a small tube and are impeccably carb free.
Bulletproof coffee is usually part of a keto diet. I believe fat bombs may be too. The aim is to consume few carbs, not too much protein, and make up the lost calories with lots of fat. I won't try to expound the various possible benefits and drawbacks of the keto diet. There are innumerable videos on Youtube and books on Amazon for that. In my case, all that fat made me feel sick, so I have settled for low carb, high protein and fairly high fat. Double cream in my coffee is rich enough for me.

Like @KennyA says you need to test to see how you might react to various sweeteners. Just be aware that stevia generally includes a bulking agent due to its extreme sweetness - so you should always check all ingredients - erythritol is fine but there are other additions you should be wary of.

I have tried fat bombs, and later sampled bulletproof coffee but I found that these were a bit too much for me and not really necessary, so I just include enough normal full fats in my diet for energy needs. However, cream, a teaspoon of coconut oil and an erythritol/stevia granulated sweetener or stevia drops in my coffee were OK - no problem with raised levels! But now I often use almond or hazelnut unsweetened "milk" instead of cream and might occasionally add some coconut oil as this combination is much less icky sicky fatty.

Adding a couple of packets of sweetener to my coffee with cream would render it undrinkable for my re-educated taste buds would have hysterics at that level of sweetness being imposed on them.

When I first heard of bullit proof coffee I got all exited and enthusiastic until I tasted one then was left with just the disappointment.
