Well done Geordie

I lost 5lbs last week, despite having a hiccup at the weekend, so I'm very pleased. I'm now back to where I was - pre-Christmas. Exactly 17 stone.

Hi. Geordie.
I'm having the same problem as you with the motions. Only go once every 3 days. Tried adding slimfast soluble fibre to the shakes but the result was very noisy!!
FBG seems to be steady at 5.8 most days
Weight 192lbs thats another 4lbs off this week. Total loss 18lbs.
Viseral fat down 1% to 14% so its slowly going down. It must start going down quicker soon as my total body fat is only 19.5%
Celebrated the halfway mark with a glass of red and an apple. My only lapse so far but at least it was a planned one!
We're on the downhill slope now!

viv excellent weight loss
Bluehills yup starting the homeward stretch lol but shouldnt really think of it like that as this is for life not just for xmas
Bit like a dog really

Hi all,

Great to hear everyone is doing so well.

I have finally started the diet to, today is my first day. I'm going to try and keep it as close to the Newcastle study as possible and monitor everything.

Have managed to get hold of Optifast which is why it took a couple extra weeks before I started.

FBG was 6.7, not bad considering it was only 6hr fast and a goodbye to food and drink weekend binge.

I'll keep you guys posted how things go.

Hi all,
I started my 5th week today following the study using optislim.
My main goal of controlling my diabetes is going well with most results around 5.1
Sorry you are feeling rough geordie, I have fybromyalgia and still hold a full time job and feel rough most days. The Dr was not too happy with me starting the diet but agreed to support me on condition that if any problems occur i'm to drop the study.

The 2nd best news was i've dropped from 17st 2lbs to 15st 6lbs

not long to go now :D

hi guys
well i got some rhubarb lol
eggle fifith week excellent results too hows it affecting your ailment is it making it worse/better or not affecting it, the weight loss is excellent though
I cant empathise with you cos in truth i have a mild cold nothing else i hope the diet is making even a small difference to your fibromyalgia and make u feel a bit better

Well done all on your weightloss!!

Hope you are feeling better son, Geordie :)

I think i will try your rhubarb tip, Viv - I think you will guess why...

I have only lost 12lbs - I am a bit disappointed with that as I have not cheated once (until today) and have been doing loads of exercise, but my FBG is around 5 which I am pleased with. Still only taking half my meds xx

I have cheated today - I have had a cup of tea with a splash of milk - my first for four weeks  And i had five pickled onions and three mushrooms over my veg allowance

It's not made much impact on my condition that I can tell, but the weight loss will help with less strain on limbs.
Good luck with the rhubarb, I was advised to try the lemon and ginger tea by twinnings and It works for me, no problems with number twos.

The only diet downside is my breath could strip wallpaper it's that bad, my wife said it started from about the 3rd week in :silent:

The biggest loss for me was the cuppa tea hmmm. It kills me not havin a proper brew.
I work in a plumbers merchant and there has been promotion events taking place with bacon sarnie's and other devil foods given freely, hand on heart i have not given in once to temptation at all whilst dieting.
But it's bloody hard at times.

Well done, Eggle - until my cup of tea and pickled onion moment today I had also stuck to the diet - ******

I really miss cups of tea too .... does the lemon and ginger tea help with the craving for a cuppa?

Hi All,

End of my first day, so far so good...

Haven't had the need to take my meds as FBG was 6.7 then 4.0 2hr after my lunch shake, still got an hour to go before my night test.

The question that I had was is anyone taking any vitamins on this diet?

I have the obligatory Calceos, as well as multivitamin and one omega 3 pill. Should I stop these or would continuing them not really harm the diet?

well got upi this morning fbg 4.6
Been wave riding which is excelent fun, only me and a workmate there so we had plenty of goes in the hour, if youve never seen it you tube 'waveriding' it its brilliant fun, tiring mind, gym tonight lol gonna sweat this cold out of myself

Just finished week 4, 20 lbs of weight gone so far and meds free ( I was on max dose of metformin, gliclazide and sitagliptin). BS readings are generally very good, though I note some occasional early sixes in the mornings (wondering whether it is because I have upped my black coffee intake- anyone got any thoughts on this?). I'm following the diet down to the letter on Optifast shakes. When I first discussed it with my GP she had never heard of it. I'm lucky enough to have private medical insurance through work, and got a referral to an endocrinologist. He was at first instance dismissive of the medical value of the diet, so I emailed the guy who had run the trial at Newcastle who responded, " Sometimes conventional medical thinking takes a while to catch up!" Geordie90, been really interested to find this thread, finding your updates really motivating mate. I'm only getting to the gym once a week (pressures of work) but have an hours personal training. I've actually noted that I have more energy late in the evenings (was dozing off 10.30ish previously, anyone else noted this?

kward nice one m8
I definetly think the gym has a massive bearing on how well the diet works, ive been diagnosed for nine years but the results so far have been very encouraging.
I too emailed Professor Taylor and got a response from him and his assistant which was very encouraging too, i have asked if they develop a specific healthy eating plan for after diet that they let me know and if i get it i'll post it on here.
I was speaking to someone who has had bariatric surgery yesterday, she lost five stone and also lost her diabetes, she was on a restricted 600 cal diet so this is obviously where it comes from, she is still free of diabetes.
For those of you on the diet keep going and lets see if we can prove it as a success

I'm a bit disappointed in my weight loss rate.

It's been 15 days now and my weight has stayed the same now for the last 5 days.

I have stuck to the rules, never cheated and my BG is always around 5 now. The only thing spoiling my results is the pounds not coming off

Hey Ardberg, keep at it mate - weight loss will be influenced by how much you had to lose in the first place. Good luck mate

Ken

ardbeg your plateauing dont panic you will restart the weight loss.
Ive only lost just over a stone which i am dissappointed with but the change in shape is more noticeable, i might be able to go on the fornt cover of fattys monthly soon, ive got abs now oh and ribs.
Keep at it m8 dont get disheartened i know we all do at some point but the hardest part is to plow through it, at end of the day the diet is for two months but the lifestyle change s forever if we want to keep the sugars under control.
Im not sure how much exercise you do but if can introduce more into your regime that may work, but if you are already exercsing a lot, change what you are doing, your body gets used to doing the same routine, change it every six weeks or so to keep your body in a state of flux, i have a pal(my training partner) who goes to gym twice a day five days a week, he doesnt work due to a past injury, he could go on the eliptical trainer for an hour and fifteen minutes and come off not even out of breath, and he was on the highest setting. He did that for about eight months!!! I suggested that he stop so much on that and start to do a different exercise for his cardio so we decided on rowing, he cant do fifteen minutes on that without nearly passing out and feeling sick lol. Your body is so adaptable it needs to be shocked into changes which kick off different results, keep going though the weight loss remember is a secondary outcome to getting the diabetes under control

Thanks guys.

I had been weighing myself last thing at night at had been 17st exactly for the last 5 nights.

I weighed myself this morning and found myself to be 16 11 and a half.

I shall be weighing myself in the MORNINGS from now on....

Ardberg, I only weigh myself once a week, in the morning, of course. I know it's tempting to do it more often, but give yourself a chance and don't be too hard on yourself. We'll get there!
