starting newcastle diet on 2nd jan

My understanding was Viv that part of this diet burns the fat from the pancreas, re-activating the cells within it in the process. Therefore, once completed we should return to a 'normal' person.

Losing weight and eating healthily is what to docs recommend. Nothing groudbreaking about that

I've read Prof. Roy Taylor diet sheets and I think someone as got the mathmatices wrong.
1. You can not get 200 calories from a mix of 250 grams vegetables
2. Three soups and shakes of Opifast as recommed do not add you to 600 calories but 500 calories.

wow..im stunned..lowest bg ever tonight 6.4 ! Only been doing this for 5 days...I know 6.4 isnt "normal" but last week I was around 15-17 (had a chest infection though, so that might be why it was SO high also)

hils keep going gets better had a couple of slices of pizza tonight two hours later 5.6 hehe, by the way too many vodka and slimline tonics mean dancing all night lol

hilsonpils, a walk is apparently a great way of keeping the blood fats at a low level (see the BBC2 horizon program last Tuesday for more info), which seems to be an important part of the plan . Exercise was not included in the original study, in order to exclude an unknown variable, but our goal is to get rid of the visceral fat which seems to be the main problem, so walking is and ideal way to complement the diet. Delighted that your levels have fallen so dramatically, it is great encouragement to see such early results.

another milestone passed today, first game of rugby since xmas and since my weight loss, 49-14 win, felt bloody great, before xmas was considering retirement, not any more, when ref said only 2 minutes left i asked if we could play another half an hour cos i felt so good, lack of size wasnt a problem in the scrum went forward all afternoon and felt really strong against a bigger pack than us, i think they were really shocked lol. in last five minutes managed to keep up with our 10 and support him when we score a try, im pleased he didnt give it to me cos i could feel my calf cramping lol, would have looked like a right girl going down with cramp.
Had a couple of slim line tonics in clubhouse then home for a steak, nothing else, checked blood before and it was 4.6, will check again in two hours to see what it is.
Wish id done this ages ago, if your on the fence about the diet, try it you might be amazed, i am

Very interesting thread, thanks for sharing your experiences, Geordie! It may be just what I need, especially given my mobility issues.

Jealous to hear of your rugby exploits. God I miss rugby!!

i shoot give this diet a go, honestly its easy to do and the results are amazing if you stick to it but you must try and incorporate osme form of exercise into it if you have mobility issues speak with your surgery nurse to see if they can suggest exercises that you can do without causing you pain etc

I can heartily recommend it, im def a convert,

took my post prandial bg two hours after a steak and a couple of bits of pizza left by my son.............5.9, proofs in the eating lol or pudding but i dont have puddings anymore lol

Ok Guys,

This weeks weigh in results are.....

a loss of 2.6kg
last sundays weight was 97.7kg
today it is 95.1kg
starting weight was 111.7kg, so total weight loss of 16.6kg (2stone 9lb)
Still not taken any meds since the start of the diet but my BG were higher this week with the FBG hitting between 5.1-5.4 a few times.

I have been off the ND and back on Atkins for a week now and my weight hasnt bugged one iota. I am used to a loss of 1 to 1 1/2 kgs a week. I know they warn that you could put on a bit when you stop the ND but I have been very good on Atkins and my portions are really small now that my appetite has decreased so much. I am also going for really long walks, walking an average of around 4 hours a week. Any ideas of what I can do to get the weight loss going again?

Antmos - No los is better than a gain. Maybe change your gym routine. Add in some High Intensity Interval training. Also how are you BG's holding up?

Your bodies probably getting used to having food again, I suspect if you give it time to adjust itll start again.
My losses have slowed down only 1 1/2 lbs today but broke the magic 15 st barrier which is major achievement for me tbh, having a lsightly modified diet now but still coming off, bit more protein but no carbs or very low carbs coupled with slimfast for breakfast and dinner then salad or veg and turkey/chicken/tuna etc

Hi "geordie90" I hope you were joking about having steak, turkey and tuna, if not, you are not doing Prof Roy Taylor so called Newcastle 800 calorie diet, as all 3 are forbidden. As I've already mension earlier, I think the diet is nearer to 600 calories than 800, which is a quarter of what the average male needs.please remember it not only effecting the pancreas, also other parts of the body.and may also create a problem with ketones.I've been on a diet( not the 800 cal.diet) since mid June 2011
and have lost 3.75 stones Which includes 7 weeks without weight loss, the so called dieter's plateau.
I wish you luck but be careful

Alan
Thanks for your concern I have finished the eight weeks of the Newcastle diet and have to say I have never, and I mean never felt better. I have combined it with a gym regime and have had no adverse reactions , I fully intend to continue on a modified version but am still going to use slimfast as it makes it easy for me at work etc.
As far as turkey/chicken tuna I had none of those on the diet as prescribed, I am now slowly and gently reintroducing them into my diet as tbh frank i dont feel hungry enough to need that much more. I understand what your saying about calorific intake etc and I am a big lad but so far I have been absolutely fine and no adverse conditions. I have ketosticks to test if i in ketosis after I have been to gym etc as I am aware ketoacidosis is extremely dangerous and defintely dont want to instigate that.
I still have about 1 1/2 stones to lose and fully intend maintaining a healthy diet and rigourous fitness campaign.
I would not deem to tell Prof taylor or anyone else on here what to do about their own health problems as I am not medically trained but as mentioned on numerous occasions on this post I am basically recording my experiences, good and bad whilst on the regime and now post regime, and what can i say its worked wonders for me, feel great but to qualify that it possibly wont work for everyone as everyone is different and I certainly would not recomended anyone coming completely off their medication without prior discussion and consultation with their health care professional.
But if we can make a difference to this condition by diet alone, and most who have posted on her who are doing the diet have, then what is really the harm, it just shows that we have some degree of control over our condition and the pace at which it develops.
I suspect when the Govs new NHS plans come into play and Drs have complete control over budgets then the diet will be recommended far more, and why not if it is going to save money and make people take control of their own health care and provision. I am not deluded and have been diagnosed for nine years and it has had a massive impact on me, wish id know about it nine years ago and had the support of a forum like this.

As I enter my final week of this diet I feel FANTASTIC.

My waistline has dropped from 42 to 36 inches and my weight is approx 15 and a half stone.

I can't honestly remember ever being this "slim" in years.

Like others before me I too intend to stick to this eating routine and just gradually re introduce fish and meat back into my diet.

For me potatoes are a "no no" from now on; as of course are sweets and in particular chocolate.

Bread may well prove to be my biggest challenge as I did love my bacon rolls!!!

Another success, well done its great to feel good isnt it, i can honestly say i havent felt as good in years, im a similar build to u by sounds of it, although ive just broken the magical 15st barrier for first time in 20 years !!!!

Hi Immis/Geordie/Alan,

My bg's are fantastic since going back on Atkins. Much better than when I was on the ND. Those shakes always made my levels spike and then come crashing down. I had more hypos while on that diet than in the whole 10 years I have been a diabetic! Now the levels are low but stable which shows me I am doing the diet correctly but still no loss. My daughter thinks that because I am doing so much walking that I am developing muscles which are heavy, hence no loss. I am not sure I agree with that, what do you guys think? My clothes do feel as if they are getting looser even without any additional loss. I am not sure what to think or what to do to get the loss going again. Help!

hi antmos, the main consideration is that your bgs are excellent, if your clothes also feel looser then you are obviously redistributing your weight more efficiently. Weight loss is a good bonus but its the sugars that matter really, im sure itll start again very quickly and all will be good
